Ravindra Jayant Nadkarni
Rear Admiral Ravindra Jayant Nadkarni, AVSM, VSM is a former flag officer in the Indian Navy. He last served as the Flag Officer Defence Advisory Group (FODAG). He previously served as the Flag Officer Commanding Karnataka Naval Area. Early life Nadkarni was born to Admiral Jayant Ganpat Nadkarni, an officer in the Indian Navy who rose to become the 12th Chief of the Naval Staff, and Vimal Nadkarni. Education Nadkarni did his undergraduate studies at the National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla. He went on to graduate from the staff course at the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington. He also attended the College of Naval Warfare in Karanja and the National Defence College in New Delhi. Career He was commissioned in the Indian Navy on 1 July 1983. Rear Admiral
Rear admiral is a senior naval flag officer rank, equivalent to a major general and air vice marshal and above that of a commodore and captain, but below that of a vice admiral. It is regarded as a two star " admiral" rank. It is often regarded as a two-star rank with a NATO code of OF-7. The term originated in the days of naval sailing squadrons and can trace its origins to the Royal Navy. Each naval squadron was assigned an admiral as its head, who commanded from the centre vessel and directed the squadron's activities. The admiral would in turn be assisted by a vice admiral, who commanded the lead ships that bore the brunt of a battle. Wellington, Tamil Nadu
Wellington is a town in the Nilgiris District of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, three kilometres to the north of Coonoor on the NH181. The town includes a Wellington Bazaar, and the Wellington Cantonment. The Wellington Cantonment is home to The Madras Regimental Centre (MRC) and The Defence Services Staff College (DSSC). Ati Vishist Seva Medal
Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) is a military award of India given to recognize "distinguished service of an exceptional order" to all ranks of the armed forces. The award is a peacetime equivalent of Uttam Yuddh Seva Medal, which is a Wartime Distinguished Service decoration. The award can also be granted posthumously. Training Command (India)
Training Command is the Indian Air Force's command responsible for flying and ground training. In the 1930s, the approaching threat and later advent of World War II and the leaning of Japan towards the Axis powers, the latter was considered as a potential enemy. Therefore, need was felt to make IAF a self-supporting force for the South Eastern Theatre of war. This led to the rapid expansion of the IAF. A target was fixed of 10 IAF Squadrons. With this expansion, the requirement of pilots and technical personnel increased. For the training of technical personnel, a technical training school was set up at Ambala in 1940. In a 1949 reorganisation of the Indian Air Force, while frontline units were put under the Operations Command, all the training institutions were placed under the jurisdiction of the Training Command. Southern Naval Command
The Southern Naval Command is one of the three command-level formations of the Indian Navy. It has its headquarters in Kochi, Kerala at INS Venduruthy. It is the Training Command of the Indian Navy. INS ''Betwa'' (F39) is a guided missile frigate currently in service with the Indian Navy. The ship is named for the Betwa River. Operations Operation Sukoon ''Betwa'' was a part of Task Force 54, returning from the Mediterranean, when the 2006 Israel-Lebanon Conflict broke out. INS ''Cuddalore ''(M69) was a modified of the ''Pondicherry'' class ships that were in service with the Indian Navy. A minesweeper is a small warship designed to remove or detonate naval mines. Using various mechanisms intended to counter the threat posed by naval mines, minesweepers keep waterways clear for safe shipping. Lieutenant Commander
