Rauris Literature Prize
The Rauris Literature Prize () is an annual Austrian literary award since 1972 by the Salzburg state government. The prize money is €10,000. It is awarded "for the best prose first publication by a German-speaking author from the previous year". The prize is presented at the opening of the Rauris Literature Days. Salzburg State
Salzburg (, ; bar, Soizbuag, label= Austro-Bavarian) (also known as ''Salzburgerland'') is a state (''Land'') of the modern Republic of Austria. It is officially named ''Land Salzburg'' to distinguish it from its eponymous capital — the city of Salzburg. For centuries, it was an independent Prince-Bishopric of the Holy Roman Empire. Alain Claude Sulzer
Alain Claude Sulzer (born 17 February 1953) is a Swiss writer and translator. He was born in Riehen, near Basel. Sulzer became a librarian, but also translated from French, for example parts of Julien Green's diaries. As a journalist he wrote for various newspapers and magazines, including the '' NZZ''. He has published more than ten books and has won a number of literary awards in the process, such as the Rauris Literature Prize (1984), or the Hermann-Hesse-Preis (2009). His novel ''A Perfect Waiter'' won the Prix Medicis Etranger and the and has been translated into several languages. Another novel ''Aus den Fugen'' has also met with critical and commercial success and is set to be translated into English. Ruth Klüger
Ruth Klüger (30 October 1931 – 5 October 2020) was Professor Emerita of German Studies at the University of California, Irvine and a Holocaust survivor. She was the author of the bestseller ''weiter leben: Eine Jugend'' about her childhood in Nazi Germany. Biography Ruth Klüger was born on 30 October 1931 in Vienna. In March 1938, Hitler marched into Vienna. The annexation of Austria by the Nazis deeply affected Klüger's life: Klüger, who then was only six years old, had to change schools frequently and grew up in an increasingly hostile and antisemitic environment. Her father, who was a Jewish gynaecologist, lost his practitioner's license and was later sent to prison for performing an illegal abortion. In September 1942, she was deported to Theresienstadt concentration camp at the age of 10, together with her mother; her father had tried to flee abroad, but was detained and murdered. Sabine Scholl
The Sabines (; lat, Sabini; it, Sabini, all exonyms) were an Italic people who lived in the central Apennine Mountains of the ancient Italian Peninsula, also inhabiting Latium north of the Anio before the founding of Rome. The Sabines divided into two populations just after the founding of Rome, which is described by Roman legend. The division, however it came about, is not legendary. The population closer to Rome transplanted itself to the new city and united with the preexisting citizenry, beginning a new heritage that descended from the Sabines but was also Latinized. The second population remained a mountain tribal state, coming finally to war against Rome for its independence along with all the other Italic tribes. Patrick Roth (born June 25, 1953 in Freiburg/Breisgau) is a German writer. He moved to the USA in his early twenties and lived there for many years. Thomas Hettche (born 30 November 1964 in Treis, Hesse) is a German author. Hettche completed his ''Abitur'' at the Liebigschule Giessen, He studied German studies and philosophy at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and completed his PhD in philosophy. Norbert Gstrein
Norbert Gstrein (born 1961) is an Austrian writer. He was born in Mils in Tyrol, the son of the hotelier and ski school director Norbert Gstrein (1931–1988) and Maria Gstrein, née Thurner (born 1935). He grews up with his five siblings in and attended the secondary school from 1971 to 1979 in Imst. From 1979 to 1984, Gstrein studied mathematics in Innsbruck, Stanford and Erlangen. He not completed his PhD (no defense of his thesis ''Zur Logik der Fragen'') in 1988 at the University of Innsbruck, under the supervision of Roman Liedl and Gerhard Frey. Gstrein is the author of more than a dozen books, including ''Winters in the South'', translated into English by Anthea Bell and Julian Evans, and ''A Sense of the Beginning'', translated by Julian Evans.
