Rauchkofel (Zillertal Alps)
The Rauhkofel or Rauchkofel (, ) is a summit on the main crest of the Zillertal Alps, which forms the border between the Austrian state of Tyrol and the Italian province of South Tyrol. The name of the mountain ("rugged peak") comes from the rugged appearance of the granite blocks that form the summit . The Rauhkofel rises above its neighbouring peaks on the main Zillertal ridge considerably and it is considered the best lookout mountain in the eastern Zillertal Alps.Goedecke: ''3000er in den Nordalpen.'' page 155, see literature The east and south arêtes of the Rauhkofel are part of the main crest of the Zillertal Alps. Reichenspitze
The Reichenspitze is a mountain, , in the eastern Zillertal Alps on the border between the Austrian states of Salzburg and Tyrol. It is the highest peak of the range named after it, the Reichenspitze Group, and offers good, all-round views. Its neighbouring peaks, all linked by arêtes, are the 3,263-metre-high '' Gabler'' to the northeast, the ''Richterspitze'' (3,052 m) to the south and the 3,278-metre-high Wildgerlosspitze to the northwest. Trail blazing or way marking is the practice of marking paths in outdoor recreational areas with signs or markings that follow each other at certain, though not necessarily exactly defined, distances and mark the direction of the trail. Prettau
Prettau (; ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) of South Tyrol, an Italian province in the country's north. It is the northernmost ''comune'' of Italy and is located within the Alps at the border with Austria. It is situated at above sea level. , the population was 518. Copper mining was historically the major industry in Prettau, until the abandonment of its copper mine in 1893. History Prettau became a ''comune'' in 1958. The German and Austrian Alpine Club (, DuÖAV) was a merger of the German, Austrian and German Bohemian Alpine Club that existed from 1873 to 1938. History In 1862 the ''Sektion Austria'' was founded in Vienna by the academics Paul Grohmann, Friedrich Simony and Edmund von Mojsisovics. It was the first mountaineering club on the continent, modelled on the London Alpine Club. Tauferer Ahrntal
The Tauferer Ahrntal denotes the valley of the Ahr (South Tyrol), Ahr () River, a tributary valley of the Puster Valley in South Tyrol, Italy. It is commonly divided into the Tauferer Tal (''Val di Tures''), stretching from the confluence with the Rienz River near Bruneck up to Sand in Taufers, and the Ahrntal (''Valle Aurina'') proper up to the source in Prettau. Geography The valley in the Central Eastern Alps forms the northeasternmost part of South Tyrol close to the Austrian border, separating the Zillertal Alps in the north and west from the Hohe Tauern range (Rieserferner Group) in the south and east. Climbing Grade
Many climbing routes have grades for the technical difficulty, and in some cases for the risks, of the route. The first ascensionist can suggest a grade but it will be amended for the ''consensus view'' of subsequent ascents. While many countries with a tradition of climbing developed their own grading systems, a small number of grading systems have become internationally dominant for each type of climbing, and which has led to the standardization of grading worldwide. Over the years, grades have consistently risen in all forms of climbing, helped by improvements in climbing technique and equipment. In free climbing (i.e. climbing rock routes with no aid), the most popular grading systems are the French numerical or sport system (e.g. f7c+), the American YDS system (e.g. 5.13a), and latterly the UIAA scale (e.g. IX+).
