Ratloop
Ratloop, Inc. is an American video game developer based in Houston, Texas, and founded in 1997 in Richmond, Virginia. In addition to traditional retail game products, Ratloop has also done contract work for various 3D multimedia projects such as training tools and "serious games". Their earliest work used the label "Team Epochalypse", and they also own the DBA brand "Mekada", which is oriented towards casual gamers. In 2007, Ratloop Asia Pte. Ltd. was incorporated to support a development team based in Singapore. In 2017, Ratloop Canada was incorporated. Lucas Pope
Lucas Pope (born ) is an American video game designer. He is best known for experimental indie games, notably ''Papers, Please'' and '' Return of the Obra Dinn'', both of which won the Seumas McNally Grand Prize alongside other awards. Early life Pope grew up in Virginia. His father was a handyman, which gave Pope access to a well-stocked array of parts and tools that led to an interest in mechanical engineering. When he got to high school, he met a friend who was interested in robotics, and the two of them would take retail robot kits, take them apart, and reconnect them to their own computers to see how they could control them. Inspired to continue into the mechanical and robotics field, Pope attended Virginia Tech to study mechanical engineering. He found that the reality of what constituted the field was less desirable than what he wanted, but did take strong interest in the computer programming side of his coursework. Lemnis Gate
''Lemnis Gate'' was a first-person arena shooter video game developed by Ratloop Games Canada and published by Frontier Foundry. It was released on September 28, 2021 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It was also published to Xbox Game Pass on its first day of release as well. The game featured players taking turns in competitive multiplayer matches to complete 25 second runs with characters as they attempt to complete objectives. Each player's turn stacked on top of previous rounds, causing players to think critically over the best strategy to take in a given situation to win as previous loops continue. Reception to the game was generally favorable, with critics praising its interesting take on first-person shooter mechanics and the injection of a new layer of strategy into the genre. Helsing's Fire
''Helsing's Fire'' is a 2010 puzzle video game developed by Ratloop and published by Clickgamer.com. The protagonist, monster hunter Van Helsing, and his assistant Raffton battle Dracula and his minions by revealing monsters using a torch and defeating them with tonics. Developed over the course of 6 months by Ratloop co-founder Lucas Pope and programmer Keiko Ishizaka, the game was originally designed to be a roguelike action game, but eventually turned into a puzzler. The game was released in 2010 for iOS. It was reviewed positively by critics, who praised the game's torch/tonic puzzle mechanic, visuals, and dialogue between Van Helsing and Raffton; reception towards the game's difficulty was mixed. ''Malice'' is a total conversion for '' Quake'', developed jointly by Team Epochalypse (which would go on to form Ratloop) and Quantum Axcess, and published by Quantum Axcess in November 1997 as a commercial game. It would later be bundled with both the original ''Quake'' and the ''Q!Zone'' add-on in the form of the ''Resurrection Pack for Quake'' compilation, distributed by GT Interactive in 1998.
