Mike Ratledge
Michael Ronald Ratledge (6 May 1943 – 5 February 2025) was a British musician. A part of the Canterbury scene, he was a founding member of Soft Machine. He was the last founding member to leave the group, doing so in 1976. Early life Ratledge was born in Maidstone, Kent, the son of a Canterbury secondary modern school headmaster. As a child, he was educated in classical music, the only kind of music played in his parents' home. He learned to play the piano, and with his friend Brian Hopper, whom he had met at Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys in Canterbury, played classical piano and clarinet pieces. Ratledge also met Brian's younger brother Hugh, and Robert Wyatt. In 1961, he met Daevid Allen, who interested them in playing jazz. Through Cecil Taylor's piano pieces Ratledge became familiar with the music of Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis and John Coltrane. In 1963, he played in the Daevid Allen Trio. Tate Ratledge
Tate Collier Ratledge (born April 26, 2001) is an American professional football guard for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Georgia Bulldogs, where he was an All-American and a two-time national champion. He was selected by the Lions in the second round of the 2025 NFL draft. Early life Ratledge was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and grew up in Rome, Georgia. He is the son of Dean Ratledge, a coach for over 40 years. He attended Darlington School, where he competed in football, basketball and track and field. Coming out of high school Ratledge was ranked the number 39 overall player in the 2020 class, the number five rank at his position and number six in the state of Georgia. John Ratledge
John Ratledge (born 8 August 1974) is an English barrister and former first-class cricketer. Born at Preston, Ratledge was educated at Bolton School, before going up to St John's College, Cambridge to study law. While studying at Cambridge he played first-class cricket for Cambridge University, making his debut against Nottinghamshire at Fenner's in 1994. He played first-class cricket for Cambridge from 1994–1997, making a total of 27 appearances at first-class level. Ratledge ended his first-class career having scored a total of 942 runs at an average of 20.04, with a highest score of 100 not out. This score was his only first-class century and came against Oxford University in 1997, in what was his final first-class match.
