Rashad Shawa Cultural Center
The Rashad Shawa Cultural Center is a cultural center that was built in 1985, in Rimal, Gaza, State of Palestine. The place was named after its founder Rashad al-Shawa, the city's Palestinian Palestinians ( ar, الفلسطينيون, ; he, פָלַסְטִינִים, ) or Palestinian people ( ar, الشعب الفلسطيني, label=none, ), also referred to as Palestinian Arabs ( ar, الفلسطينيين العرب, label=non ... mayor who served in office for 11 years. The building was completed 1988. Description and function The building is two-story tall, with triangular roof. The center have a meeting place, where people meet for celebrations, a library, and a stage where exhibition is distributed. Theatrical exhibitions In September 2009, the cultural center had a three-day festival, that featured training workshops. Rimal
Rimal or Remal ( ar, حي الرمال, , sands) is an upscale neighborhood in Gaza City located from the city center. Situated along the coastline, it has been considered the most prosperous neighborhood of Gaza.Jacobs, 1998, p.455. The main street that runs through Gaza, Omar Mukhtar Street runs northwest–southeast in the district and the main coastal road, Ahmad Orabi/Rasheed Street northeast-southwest. Rashad Al-Shawa
Rashad al-Shawwa ( ar, رشاد الشوا) (1909 – 1988) was the Palestinian mayor of Gaza for eleven years from 1971 to 1982. Before becoming mayor he was an outgoing local activist in the city. He was known by Israelis and Palestinians as the pro-Jordanian "father figure" of the Gaza Strip. He is the father of artist Laila Shawwa. Early life Al-Shawwa was born in 1909 into one of Gaza City's most prominent families.
