Ras El Aioun District
Ras El Aioun is a district of Batna Province, Algeria. In 2008, the district's population was estimated to be around 130,000. Ras El Aioun is located on the Mediterranean Sea and in the north-central portion of Algeria. Ras El aioun had been inhabited by tribes of Oulad Ali Ben Sabour and Oulad salame for several hundred years, later some French colonists arrived to the district in the French conquest period. The district has a diverse geography. It is bordered by Ain Azel and EL Eulma to the north and N'gaou and Oulad Si Slimane to the south. It is also bordered by Merouana and Ain Djasser to the east and Djezzar and Salah Bey to the west . Ras El Aioun district covers 910 km2 with a density of 111/km2 . Algerian Independence Referendum, 1962
An independence referendum was held in French Algeria on 1 July 1962. It followed French approval of the Évian Accords in an April referendum. Voters were asked whether Algeria should become an independent state, co-operating with France; 99.72% voted in favour with a voter turnout of 91.88%. Following the referendum, France declared Algeria to be independent on 3 July; the decision was published in the official journal the following day, and Algerian leaders declared 5 July (the 132nd anniversary of the French arrival in Algiers) to be Independence Day. When Algeria ceased to be part of France it also ceased being part of the European Communities. Belezma Range
The Belezma Range, also transliterated as Belzma ( ar, بلزمة), is a prolongation of the Aurès Mountains, at the confluence of the Tell Atlas and the Saharan Atlas in northeastern Algeria. It is separated from the main Aurès Range by the Batna-El Kantara basin. Geography and vegetation The ridge is roughly aligned in an E-W direction. It is located at the western end of the Aurès Range, with the Hodna Mountains to the west. The highest peak, at , is the Djebel Refâa. Other important peaks are high Djebel Tichaou and Djebel Touggourt (meaning 'Cedar Peak'). The Belezma Range has one of the most important natural Atlas Cedar forests of Algeria.
