Kurdish (, ) is a language or a group of languages spoken by Kurds in the geo-cultural region of Kurdistan and the Kurdish diaspora. Iraqi Kurdistan or Southern Kurdistan ( ku, باشووری کوردستان, Başûrê Kurdistanê) refers to the Kurdish-populated part of northern Iraq. It is considered one of the four parts of "Kurdistan" in Western Asia, which also includes parts of southeastern Turkey (Northern Kurdistan), northern Syria (Western Kurdistan), and northwestern Iran (Eastern Kurdistan). Ranya ( ckb, ڕانیە, Ranye, ar, رانية) is a town in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, and is part of the Sulaymaniyah Governorate. Geography and climate Ranya City is located in the north east of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Ranya is located on longitude (36, 28-36, 5) N and latitude (44, 60-44, 33) E. Tell Bazmusian
Tell Bazmusian is an archaeological site on the right bank of the Little Zab in the Ranya Plain (Sulaymaniyah Governorate, Iraq). The site was excavated between 1956 and 1958 by Iraqi archaeologists as part of a salvage operation to document cultural remains that would be flooded by Lake Dukan, the reservoir created by the Dukan Dam which was being built at that time. Apart from Tell Bazmusian, four other sites were excavated during this operation: ed-Dem, Kamarian, Qarashina and Tell Shemshara. Bazmusian is a tell, or settlement mound, with a circumference of and a height of . Together with Tell Shemshara, it is one of the largest archaeological sites in the Ranya Plain. When the excavations started, the southeast flank of the mound was occupied by a village that was only established at the beginning of the 20th century. The site is now submerged under Lake Dukan. Qalatga Darband
Qalatga Darband is an ancient city located in Iraqi Kurdistan, overlooking Lake Dukan in Sulaymaniyah Governorate. It has been dated to the Late Hellenistic period or to the transition of Hellinistic-Parthian period. The site was first discovered using satellite imagery declassified in the 1990s that had been taken as part of the Corona program in the 1960s. It was one of the sites to be surveyed in the region in 2013 by a French mission directed by Jessica Giraud.
