Ranjit Vilas Palace (Rajkot)
The Ranjit Vilas Palace is a palace in the city of Rajkot, Gujarat and is the residence of the royal family of the erstwhile Rajkot State. History Ranjit Vilas was built in 1870 by the then Thakore Saheb of Rajkot (other), Thakor Sahib of Rajkot, Bawajiraj Mehrmansinhji. The construction of the palace was begun as a famine relief measure following the famine of 1847. Before it shifted to the Ranjit Vilas, the royal residence was the Durbargadh Palace which thereafter continued to house offices of the Rajkot State and, after Indian independence movement, India’s independence, those of the government of Gujarat. A ''jali'' or ''jaali'' (''jālī'', meaning "net") is the term for a perforated stone or latticed screen, usually with an ornamental pattern constructed through the use of calligraphy, geometry or natural patterns. Manoharsinhji Pradyumansinhji Jadeja (18 November 1935 – 27 September 2018) was an Indian politician. Early life The eldest son of Pradyumansinhji Lakhajirajsinhji, the 14th Thakore Saheb, Manoharsinhji was born at the Ranjit Vilas Palace in Rajkot. He was educated at Rajkumar College, Rajkot, and at Elphinstone College, Mumbai. Manoharsinhji had a bachelor of arts honours degree and a bachelor of laws degree.
