Ranindu Dilshan Liyanage
Ranindu Dilshan Liyanage also simply known as Ranindu Liyanage (born 2003) is a Sri Lankan chess player and current national champion. In July 2021, he became the first Sri Lankan man to participate at the FIDE Chess World Cup. He is currently coached by Uzbekistani chess grandmaster Alexei Barsov. Career Ranindu pursued his interest in chess in 2009 when he was studying in primary grades at the Asoka Primary School in Kalagedihena, Gampaha. He then moved to Ananda College in Grade 3. He was coached by veteran national chess player Suneetha Wijesuriya in Ananda College. He was later coached by Sri Lankan international chess grandmaster Romesh Weerawardane in 2013. In 2016, he was part of the Under-14 national chess team which claimed the bronze medal at the Asian Nations Cup which was held in China. Grigoriy Alekseyevich Oparin (russian: Григо́рий Алексе́евич Опа́рин; born 1 July 1997) is a Russian-American chess player. He was awarded the title Grandmaster by FIDE in 2013. Career Oparin was awarded the title of Candidate Master in 2007, as a result of his second place, behind Kirill Alekseenko, at the European Youth Chess Championships in the Under 10 division. Sachini D. Ranasinghe (born 1994), also known as S.D. Ranasinghe, is a Sri Lankan chess player who holds the title of Woman International Master (WIM, 2011). She is the first Sri Lankan player to get awarded the title of Woman International Master and only Sri Lankan player to win Asian zonal 3.2 chess championship and participate at the World chess Cup in 2012. Chess World Cup 2021
The Chess World Cup 2021 was a 206-player single-elimination chess tournament that took place in Sochi, Russia, beginning 12 July and ending 6 August 2021. It was the 9th edition of the Chess World Cup. The winner of this tournament was the Polish GM Jan-Krzysztof Duda, who won without losing any games either in classical chess or in the rapid tiebreakers. The two finalists (Duda and Sergey Karjakin) qualified for the Candidates Tournament 2022. The rest of the final eight, except Magnus Carlsen, qualified for the FIDE Grand Prix 2022.
