Eugène Rambert
Eugène Rambert (6 April 1830 – 21 November 1886), was a Swiss author and poet. Life He was born at Sâles near Swiss Clarens, the eldest son of a Vaudois schoolmaster, from whom he received his education. When in 1845 his father lost his post owing to the religious disputes, Rambert became a teacher in Paris, and later a tutor in England and at Geneva. When the family's fortunes improved, Rambert was able to pursue his studies for the ministry, but he was more attracted by literature, and in 1855 became professor of French literature at the academy of Lausanne, and in 1860 at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich, where he remained till 1881, when he again became professor at Lausanne. His principal work, ''Les Alpes suisses'' (5 vols., 1866–1875; republished with large additions, according to his own scheme, in 6 volumes, 1887–1889), is a mine of miscellaneous information on the subject. Dame Marie Rambert DBE (born Cyvia Rambam; 20 February 188812 June 1982) was a Polish-born English dancer and pedagogue who exerted great influence on British ballet, both as a dancer and teacher. Early years and background Born to a liberal Lithuanian Jewish family in Warsaw, Congress Poland, she was originally named Cyvia (Cesia) Rambam. Her father and two of his brothers later changed their last names to make them seem only children in order to escape military service in the Imperial Russian Army; and so, while one brother retained the name Rambam, her father changed his to Ramberg, another of his brothers went to Rambert, and the last changed his name to Warszawski. Elmer Donald "Pep" Rambert (August 1, 1916 – November 16, 1974) was a pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB). He played for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Rambert's only decision came on the final day of his MLB career when he surrendered 8 runs in a 3–11 loss to the Cincinnati Reds at Crosley Field. In the minor leagues, he played both pitcher and outfielder, beginning with the Leesburg Gondoliers and St. Augustine Saints of the Florida State League in 1937. Sebastián Pascual Rambert (born 30 January 1974) is an Argentine retired football striker. He is currently the assistant coach of the Chile national team. He was born in the city of Bernal in the Buenos Aires Province of Argentina and is of French descent. In fact, his father, Ángel Rambert, was an Argentine-born forward who began his career with Lanús before transferring to Lyon in France, where he eventually played for their national team after gaining dual nationality. In 1995 Rambert transferred from Independiente to Inter Milan. He arrived at the club along with fellow Argentine Javier Zanetti, but he did not enjoy the same success as his compatriot. Saint-Rambert-en-Bugey station (French: ''Gare de Saint-Rambert-en-Bugey'') is a railway station serving the town of Saint-Rambert-en-Bugey, in the Ain department in eastern France.
