Ramat Sharett ( he, רמת שרת) (lit. "Sharett Heights") is a neighbourhood in southwest Jerusalem, located between Ramat Denya and Beit VeGan. Jerusalem
Jerusalem (; he, יְרוּשָׁלַיִם ; ar, القُدس ) (combining the Biblical and common usage Arabic names); grc, Ἱερουσαλήμ/Ἰεροσόλυμα, Hierousalḗm/Hierosóluma; hy, Երուսաղեմ, Erusałēm. is a city in Western Asia. Ramat Denya
Ramat Denya (Hebrew: רמת דניה) (lit. "Denya Heights") is a neighborhood in southwest Jerusalem. It was established in 1970 between Kiryat Hayovel and Bayit Vegan, 780 meters above sea level. Denya was the name of the development company that built the first apartment buildings. Beit VeGan
Bayit VeGan ( he, בית וגן, lit. ''House and Garden'') is a neighborhood in southwest Jerusalem. Bayit VeGan is located to the east of Mount Herzl and borders the neighborhoods of Kiryat HaYovel and Givat Mordechai. History Bronze Age A 4,000-year-old cemetery and many Canaanite artifacts were discovered in an archeological dig at the edge of Bayit Vagan. The cemetery covers an area of more than half an acre (0.2 hectare), and burials are believed to have taken place there mainly in the Bronze Age, in 2200-2000 BCE and 1700-1600 BCE. Excavations began in 1995 but the most interesting finds were discovered in 2005. Crusader period The Orthodox monastery of Mar Saba owned a farmstead in this area in the 12th century, during the existence of the Catholic Kingdom of Jerusalem established by Crusaders. Moshe Sharett
Moshe Sharett ( he, משה שרת, born Moshe Chertok (Hebrew: ) 15 October 1894 – 7 July 1965) was a Russian-born Israeli politician who served as Israel's second prime minister from 1954 to 1955. A member of Mapai, Sharett's term was both preceded and succeeded by the premiership of David Ben-Gurion. Sharett also served as the country's first foreign minister between 1948 and 1956. Biography Born in Kherson in the Russian Empire (today in Ukraine), Sharett immigrated to Ottoman Palestine as a child in 1906. For two years, 1906–1907, the family lived in a rented house in the village of Ein-Sinya, north of Ramallah. In 1910 his family moved to Jaffa, then became one of the founding families of Tel Aviv. He graduated from the first class of the Herzliya Hebrew High School, even studying music at the Shulamit Conservatory. Dalia Itzik ( he, דליה איציק ''Dalya Itsik''; born 20 October 1952) is a former Israeli politician who last served as a member of the Knesset for Kadima. She has previously served in several ministerial positions, and on 4 May 2006 became the first female speaker of the Knesset, and served as President of Israel in an interim capacity in July 2007. She was the first acting President to have been born in Israeli territory after independence in 1948. Biography Itzik was born in Jerusalem. Her parents were Iraqi Jews who had immigrated to Israel. Her family was poor; her father was an alcoholic and at times her mother had to steal food for the family to survive. Yigal Yasinov
Yigal Yasinov ( he, יגאל יאסינוב, born 27 April 1966) is a former Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Shinui, HaOlim the National Union and Yisrael Beiteinu between 2003 and 2006. Biography Born in Kharkiv in the Soviet Union (today in Ukraine), Yasinov immigrated to Israel in 1993. Yasinov joined Shinui prior to the 1999 elections, and worked as a parliamentary assistant to Victor Brailovsky. Active in the party's Jerusalem branch, he was placed 15th on the Shinui list for the 2003 elections, and entered the Knesset when the party won 15 seats. Ofer Berkovitch
Ofer Berkovitch ( he, עופר ברקוביץ'; July 7, 1983) is the founder and chairman of Jerusalem's “Hitorerut in Jerusalem” political movement, a member of the Jerusalem city council, and Hitorerut's 2018 candidate for Mayor of Jerusalem. Previously, Berkovitch served as Jerusalem's Deputy Mayor and has held municipal portfolios for culture, economic development, and the city center among others.
