Ramat Gilad
Ramat Gilad ( he, רָמַת גִּלְעָד, , Gilad Heights) is an Israeli outpost in the West Bank under the jurisdiction of Shomron Regional Council. Israeli outposts in the West Bank are considered illegal both under international law as well as under Israeli law. Located to the north of Karnei Shomron, the outpost was established in 2001 and named after Gilad Zar, a security coordinator of the Shomron Regional Council, who was shot and killed in 2001. Ramat Gilad, home to 13 families in 2009, was considered an unauthorized outpost by the Israeli government until 2011, when a deal was reached between the government and the residents to remove nine homes located on privately owned Palestinian land. Shomron Regional Council
The Shomron Regional Council ( he, מועצה אזורית שומרון, ''Mo'atza Azorit Shomron'', English ''Samaria Regional Council'') is an Israeli regional council in the northern portion of the Israeli-occupied West Bank. Thirty-five Israeli settlements fall under its jurisdiction. As of December 2020 the jurisdiction area of the council has a population of about 47,200 people. The main offices are located in the Barkan Industrial Park. The international community considers Israeli settlements in the West Bank illegal under international law, but the Israeli government disputes this. Covering 2,800 square kilometers of the West Bank, it was, prior to the fall of 2005 when some of its municipal land was abandoned as part of Israel's unilateral disengagement plan, the largest Israeli regional council in municipal area. The international community considers the establishment of Israeli settlements in the Israeli-occupied territories illegal on one of two bases: that they are in violation of Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, or that they are in breach of international declarations.
