Rama VI Bridge
Rama VI Bridge (, , ) is a railway bridge over the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, in Thailand, connecting the districts Bang Sue and Bang Phlat. History It is the first bridge to cross the Chao Phraya River and was initially both a single-track railway and road (two lanes) bridge. Construction started in December 1922, during the reign of Vajiravudh to link the Northern Line with the Southern Line so the bridge was named after King Vajiravudh. Construction cost was 2,714,113.30 baht and It was officially opened on 1 January 1927. Center of the bridge was torn on 7 February 1945, during World War II, thus it was repaired in 1950-1953 by Dorman Long and Christiani & Nielsen and was officially reopened on 12 December 1953. Following the opening of the adjacent Rama VII Bridge in 1992 due to increase in traffic volumes, cars were diverted from Rama VI bridge. Crossings Of The Chao Phraya River
The Chao Phraya River flows through Central Thailand from the confluence of the Ping River, Ping and Nan River, Nan Rivers in Nakhon Sawan Province southward to its mouth in Samut Prakan Province, where it drains into the Gulf of Thailand. The river has long served as an important channel of water transport, although it was only after the opening of Rama VI Bridge in 1927 that a permanent land transport structure existed over the river. Kanchanaburi
Kanchanaburi (, ) is a town municipality ('' thesaban mueang'') in Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand. The town of lies to the southeast of Erawan National Park within Kanchanaburi Province, approximately 120km west of Bangkok. In 2006 it had a population of 31,327. That number was reduced to 25,651 in 2017. Khwae Yai River
The Khwae Yai River (, , ), also known as the Si Sawat ( ), is a river in western Thailand. It has its source in the Tenasserim Hills and flows for about through Sangkhla Buri, Si Sawat, and Mueang Districts of Kanchanaburi Province, where it merges with the Khwae Noi to form the Mae Klong River at Pak Phraek. History This river used to be the upper section (before the confluence with the Khwae Noi River) of the Mae Klong River, however, in the 1960s, this river was named the Khwae Yai River, meaning 'Big River.' History Christiani & Nielsen was established by Rudolf Christiani, a Danish civil engineer, and Aage Nielsen, a captain in the Royal Danish Navy, in Copenhagen, to build bridges, marine works, and other reinforced concrete structures, in 1904.
