Ralph M. Scurfield
Ralph Merle Scurfield (August 20, 1928 – October 15, 2013) was an American businessman who served on the California Horse Racing Board (CHRB) from 1991 through 1999, serving as chairman of the board from 1992 to 1999. Life and career Ralph Merle Scurfield was born in Pennsylvania on August 20, 1928. Scurfield's involvement in civic affairs dated back to the 1960s when he served on the Sacramento Planning Commission and the Sacramento City Council. He was president of the Scurfield Company in Sacramento, dealing in property investment and commercial development and management. Scurfield also served as an officer of the Association of Racing Commissioners International from 1994, becoming president of that organization in 1998 and serving one term as chairman in 1998-99. California Horse Racing Board
The California Horse Racing Board (CHRB) was established in 1933 as an independent agency of the State of California, United States. The CHRB has authority over the regulation of horse racing and parimutuel betting at licensed California race tracks. The function of the CHRB is to watch over authorized California horse races to protect the public from fraudulent operations. It is formally part of the Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency. The CHRB has seven members who are appointed by the Governor of California. The CHRB also acts as a liaison with other states' horse racing boards and help make possible off-track betting with other race tracks. The CHRB has committees which oversee the assorted duties of the Board. One of these is the steward's committee which acts on the complaints and concerns of the stewards. George Deukmejian
Courken George Deukmejian Jr. (; June 6, 1928 – May 8, 2018) was an American politician who served as the 35th governor of California from 1983 to 1991. Of Armenian descent, Deukmejian was a member of the Republican Party and he also served as the attorney general of California from 1979 to 1983. Early life and education Deukmejian was born Courken George Deukmejian Jr. in Menands, New York. His parents were Armenians born in the Armenian Highlands, who emigrated from the Ottoman Empire to the United States in the early 1900s. Peter Barton Wilson (born August 23, 1933) is an American attorney and politician who served as the 36th governor of California from 1991 to 1999. A member of the Republican Party, he also served as a United States senator from California between 1983 and 1991, and as the 29th mayor of San Diego from 1971 to 1983. John Kalar Van de Kamp (February 7, 1936 – March 14, 2017) was an American politician and lawyer who served as Los Angeles County District Attorney from 1975 until 1981, and then as the 28th Attorney General of California from 1983 until 1991. Kenneth Leon Maddy (May 22, 1934 – February 19, 2000) was a Republican member of the California State Assembly and State Senate from Fresno. Maddy was born in Santa Monica. He attended Fresno State College and graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture. He served in the State Assembly for Fresno County from 1971 to 1978. Maddy ran unsuccessfully for governor in the 1978 Republican primary, having finished in third place with 484,583 votes (19.2 percent). The nomination went to state Attorney General Evelle J.
