Ralph Kreitz
Ralph Wesley Kreitz (November 13, 1885 – July 20, 1941) was a catcher in Major League Baseball. Nicknamed "Red", he played for the Chicago White Sox in 1911. Kreitz was born in Plum Creek, Nebraska, a town that later became known as Lexington. When he was a child, his family moved to Dayton, Ohio, and he lived there for many years. He appeared in a single minor league game in 1905, and he played at least partial seasons in the minor leagues between 1907 and 1910. Kreitz's minor league batting statistics are incomplete, but they do not show any home runs until 1910. In the second inning of a 1908 game with Class B Spokane, it looked like Kreitz had hit a home run, but he was called out because he failed to touch two of the bases. Catcher
Catcher is a position in baseball and softball. When a batter takes their turn to hit, the catcher crouches behind home plate, in front of the (home) umpire, and receives the ball from the pitcher. In addition to this primary duty, the catcher is also called upon to master many other skills in order to field the position well. The role of the catcher is similar to that of the wicket-keeper in cricket. Positioned behind home plate and facing toward the outfield, the catcher can see the whole field, and is therefore in the best position to direct and lead the other players in a defensive play. The catcher typically calls for pitches using PitchCom, or hand signals. The calls are based on the pitcher's mechanics and strengths, as well as the batter's tendencies and weaknesses. The Sacramento Solons were a Minor League Baseball team based in Sacramento, California. They played in the Pacific Coast League during several periods (1903, 1905, 1909–1914, 1918–1960, 1974–1976). Vernon Tigers
The Vernon Tigers were a Minor League Baseball team that represented Vernon, California in the Pacific Coast League (PCL) from 1909 to 1925. The team won back-to-back PCL pennants in 1919 and 1920. The Tigers, together with the Sacramento Solons, joined the PCL as a new team in 1909 when the league expanded from six teams to eight. The Tigers effectively were a second team in Los Angeles, rivals of the existing Los Angeles Angels. History Vernon, California, was and still is a small community in Los Angeles County. Vernon fielded a PCL team because it was one of only two cities in Los Angeles County where the sale and consumption of alcohol was legal. Vernon used its "wet" distinction to its advantage.
