Ralph Hunt (colonist)
Ralph Hunt was a founding colonist of what is today known as Long Island. Biography Ralph Hunt was an early colonist in Long Island, New York. Records from colonial Virginia state he was born in London, England in 1613. The Hotten Records state "Ralph Hunt, age 22, by authority of certificate issued by the Minister of Gravesend, sailed from England to Virginia aboard the "Primrose" on July 27, 1635" and was granted a land patent in the colony of Virginia on November 28, 1645 in Elizabeth City County. The first record of his arrival to Long Island is dated 1652 amongst a company of Englishmen from the Virginia colony. He was an early leader in Middleburgh, where he served as a magistrate, freeholder, and later a Lieutenant for the British Crown. During this time he also negotiated the sale of Middleburg from the local Indian tribes. Colonial sources record his marriage to Elizabeth Jessup. Middleburgh, New York
Middleburgh is a town in Schoharie County, New York, United States. The population was 3,515 at the 2000 census. The Town of Middleburgh contains a village called Middleburgh. The town is on the county's eastern border and is west of Albany. History Settlement took place ''circa'' 1712 near Middleburgh village, but the early years were marred by several competing claims to the site, once called Weiser's Dorf, named after its founder, Johann Conrad Weiser, Sr. The American Revolution caused great hardship due to raids from British territory. The town was formed along with the county in 1797 from the town of Schoharie and is one of the original towns of Schoharie County. It was called "Middletown" until 1801. In 1881, the community of Middleburgh set itself off from the town by incorporating as a village. Province Of New York
The Province of New York (1664–1776) was a British proprietary colony and later royal colony on the northeast coast of North America. As one of the Middle Colonies, New York achieved independence and worked with the others to found the United States. In 1664, the Dutch Province of New Netherland in America was awarded by Charles II of England to his brother James, Duke of York. James raised a fleet to take it from the Dutch and the Governor surrendered to the English fleet without recognition from the Dutch West Indies Company that had authority over it.
