Rally Targa Florio
The Targa Florio Rally is a rally auto racing competition held in Sicily. It officially started in 1978 when the Targa Florio transitioned from sports car to rally event, mostly due to safety concerns. The 71 km pattern of Circuito delle Madonie is still used in the same permutation as the original race, and as such the Targa Florio Rally is considered its official continuation. From 1984 to 2011 the Targa Florio was part of the European Rally Championship calendar of events. Targa Florio
The Targa Florio was a public road Endurance racing (motorsport), endurance automobile race held in the mountains of Sicily near the island's capital of Palermo, Sicily, Palermo. Founded in 1906 Targa Florio, 1906, it was the oldest sports car racing event, part of the World Sportscar Championship between 1955 and 1973. While the first races consisted of a whole tour of the island, the track length in the race's last decades was limited to the of the Circuito delle Madonie, Circuito Piccolo delle Madonie, which was lapped 11 times. After 1973, it was a national sports car event until it was discontinued in 1977 due to safety concerns. Piero Liatti (born 7 May 1962) is an Italian rally driver. His specialty was driving on tarmac rallies like Monte Carlo, Catalunya, Corsica and the San Remo Rally. As of 2024, Liatti is the last Italian driver to win a rally in the World Rally Championship. The Lancia Delta S4 (also known by its Abarth project code ''SE038'') is a Group B rally car manufactured by Lancia. The Delta S4 competed in the World Rally Championship in 1985 and 1986, until Group B class was disbanded and the cars were eventually banned from competition by the FIA.
