This article contains contestant information and episode summaries from Season 1 of the Estonian competitive science television series ''Rakett69''. Season 1 aired starting on January 15, 2011 and concluded on May 7, 2011. The show was divided into 16 episodes, each about 27 minutes long. Parallel to the TV show, 10 minute long internet show also aired on The official homepage Contestants The 12 contestants, who got through the talent show, were initially divided into the White team, the Gray team and the Blue team. Episodes Each episode consisted of a 3 challenges and with 3 exceptions, a contestant had to leave each episode. Rakett69 is an Estonian science competition show, broadcast by Estonian Television and funded by the Estonian Research Council. European Broadcasting Union elected "Rakett69" as best educational TV show in Europe in spring 2012. It also won the Estonian Science Communication Award The Estonian Science Communication Award ( et, Eesti teaduse populariseerimise auhind) is an Estonian award given to an individual or group for the popularization of science since 2006. Abacus
The abacus (''plural'' abaci or abacuses), also called a counting frame, is a calculating tool which has been used since ancient times. It was used in the ancient Near East, Europe, China, and Russia, centuries before the adoption of the Hindu-Arabic numeral system. The exact origin of the abacus has not yet emerged. It consists of rows of movable beads, or similar objects, strung on a wire. They represent digits. One of the two numbers is set up, and the beads are manipulated to perform an operation such as addition, or even a square or cubic root. In their earliest designs, the rows of beads could be loose on a flat surface or sliding in grooves. Later the beads were made to slide on rods and built into a frame, allowing faster manipulation. Abacuses are still made, often as a bamboo frame with beads sliding on wires. Natural PH Indicator
A pH indicator is a halochromic chemical compound added in small amounts to a solution so the pH (acidity or basicity) of the solution can be determined visually or spectroscopically by changes in absorption and/or emission properties. Hence, a pH indicator is a chemical detector for hydronium ions (H3O+) or hydrogen ions (H+) in the Arrhenius model. Normally, the indicator causes the color of the solution to change depending on the pH. Indicators can also show change in other physical properties; for example, olfactory indicators show change in their odor. The pH value of a neutral solution is 7.0 at 25°C ( standard laboratory conditions). Solutions with a pH value below 7.0 are considered acidic and solutions with pH value above 7.0 are basic.
