Rakel Hönnudóttir
Rakel Hönnudóttir (born 30 December 1988) is an Icelandic footballer who plays as a striker for Besta deild kvenna club Breiðablik and the Iceland national team. She represented her country at the UEFA Women's Championship in 2009 and 2013. Despite being a striker, she has seldom played as one for the national team, even featuring at right back. Club career Rakel was born and grew up in Akureyri, a city in North Iceland. Throughout her youth club career she played for Þór up until 2006 when the two biggest football teams in Akureyri decided to join their women's teams and call them Þór/KA. In January 2009 Rakel went on loan to Brøndby IF of the Danish Elitedivisionen. She became the first foreign player at Brøndby's female section, who were the reigning national champions. Akureyri
Akureyri (, ) is a town in northern Iceland, the country's fifth most populous Municipalities of Iceland, municipality (under the official name of Akureyrarbær , 'town of Akureyri') and the largest outside the Capital Region (Iceland), Capital Region. In sports, a loan involves a particular player being able to temporarily play for a club other than the one to which they are currently contracted. Loan deals may last from a few weeks to a full season, sometimes persisting for multiple seasons at a time. A loan fee can be arranged by the parent club as well as them asking to pay a percentage of their wages. Association football Players may be loaned out to other clubs for several reasons. Most commonly, young prospects will be loaned to a club in a lower league in order to gain invaluable first team experience. In this instance, the parent club may continue to pay the player's wages in full or in part. The 2017 UEFA European Women's Championship, commonly referred to as UEFA Women's Euro 2017, was the 12th edition of the UEFA Women's Championship, the quadrennial international Association football, football championship organised by UEFA for the women's national teams of Europe. The competition was expanded to 16 teams (from 12 teams in the previous edition). The Netherlands was chosen to host the tournament by the UEFA Executive Committee on 4 December 2014. Sigurður Ragnar Eyjólfsson
Sigurður "Siggi" Ragnar Eyjólfsson (born 1 December 1973) is an Icelandic football manager and former player who played as a striker. From 2007 until 2013, he served as the head coach of the Iceland women's national team, guiding them to the 2009 and 2013 editions of the UEFA Women's Championship. Sigurður secured his place in Walsall history by scoring the third goal in the team's 3–1 win over Oldham Athletic in 1999, to secure promotion to the second tier of English football. In August 2013, Sigurður resigned as coach of Iceland's women's team after seven years. He continued in his role as head of education at the Football Association of Iceland (KSÍ) and was looking to move into coaching men's football. An athletic coach is a person coaching in sport, involved in the direction, instruction, and training of a sports team or athlete. 2008 Algarve Cup
The 2008 Algarve Cup was the fifteenth edition of the Algarve Cup, an invitational women's football tournament held annually in Portugal. It took place between 5 and 12 March 2008 with the reigning champions the United States winning the event for a record sixth time, after defeating Denmark, 2–1, in the final game in a repeat of the previous year's final. Format The twelve invited teams were split into three groups that played a round-robin tournament. The entrants were almost identical to the previous year, but Italy moved up into Group B from their previous ranking in 2007, replacing France who did not feature this time. The Women's Super League (WSL), also known as the Barclays Women's Super League for sponsorship reasons, and formerly the FA WSL, is a professional association football league and the highest level of women's football in England.
