The Railways of Novorossiya () is a railway located in Donetsk, providing passenger and freight services to Donetsk People's Republic, Lugansk People's Republic, Russian-controlled areas of Kherson Oblast and Zaporizhzhia Oblast. Railways of Novorossiya is a unitary enterprise company independent of Russian Railways, and headquartered in Donetsk. It was established on 29 March 2023. History The company was established by order of the Government of the Russian Federation on May 29, 2023, No. 1404-r. It was handed the assets of the enterprises "Donetsk Railway", "Luhansk Railway”, "Kherson Railway", "Melitopol Railway," and the "Donbass Railways" concern. The company does not belong to Russian Railways (RZD) and is subordinated to the Federal Agency for Rail Transport. As of January 2024, the company employed 12.4 thousand people, who transitioned into the new structure from the existing railways. Novooleksiivka Railway Station
Novooleksiivka railway station () is a major junction railway station in Novooleksiivka, Ukraine. It is currently operated by Novorossiya Railway. History The station was opened on 14 October 1874 as part of the Melitopol–Dzhankoi line. In 2014, the line to Crimea was closed due to the Russian occupation of Crimea. Consequently, all lines that previously were linked to Crimea now end at this station. On 24 February 2022, the first day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russian troops from occupied Crimea crossed the border and seized control of Novooleksiivka. On 8 March 2022, an armored Russian train was recorded by locals using the lines near the station. Melitopol Railway Station
Melitopol railway station (; ) is a railway station in the Ukrainian city Melitopol of Zaporizhzhia Oblast currently under Russian occupation. It is currently operated by Railways of Novorossiya. History The station opened in 1874, simultaneously with the opening of the railway. The Aleksandrovsk – Melitopol line came into operation on 28 June and the Melitopol – Simferopol line in October 1874. During the Russian civil war one of the buildings of the station was used as the headquarters of the commander of the Southern front Mikhail Frunze. During the Eastern Front (World War II) in October 1943 the building was destroyed, and for the next 10 years, the duties of the station was performed by small kiosks, located on the site of the current trunk. In 1955 a new building was constructed. The opening of the station was planned on 7 November to commemorate the October coup, however, the builders failed to meet the deadline, and the station was commissioned on 4 December. ... Mariupol Railway Station
The Mariupol railway station (; ) is the main railway station in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol. It first opened in 1882, and is currently operated by Novorossiya Railway. History In the late 1800s, the industrialization in the Donbas created a need for more efficient transport between inland cities and ports on the Sea of Azov. By 1882, the Mariupol station was completed to serve this purpose. Besides passenger lines, there was also a freight line towards the Port of Mariupol to improve transports of industrial goods. During the German-Soviet War, the station was completely burned down. It was rebuilt in 1946. In the 1970s, the station underwent renovations, and the waiting room now had decorations portraying famous people from Mariupol. In 1974 the construction was completed. Luhansk Railway Station
Luhansk (, ; , ), also known as Lugansk (, ; , ), is a city in the Donbas in eastern Ukraine. As of 2022, the population was estimated to be making Luhansk the 12th-largest city in Ukraine. Luhansk served as the administrative center of Luhansk Oblast, before pro-Russian separatists seized control of the city in 2014 and made it the capital of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic.
