''Railway Age'' is an American trade magazine for the rail transport industry. It was founded in 1856 in Chicago (the United States' major railroad hub) and is published monthly by Simmons-Boardman Publishing Corporation. History The magazine's original title was the ''Western Railroad Gazette,'' and it was renamed the ''Railroad Gazette'' in 1870. In June 1908, after purchasing its chief rival, ''The Railway Age'' (founded in 1876 in Chicago), it changed its title to ''Railroad Age Gazette'', then in January 1910, to ''Railway Age Gazette''. In 1918, it shortened its name to the current title. ''Railway Review'' (originally the ''Chicago Railway Review'') was merged into ''Railway Age'' in 1927. History The Blacklands Railroad began operations in 1999 on an abandoned Southern Pacific Transportation Company, Southern Pacific rail line that stretched from Mount Pleasant, Texas, Mt. The Greenville and Western Railway is a Class III railroad that operates from a point south of Belton to Pelzer, South Carolina. Connections are made with Pickens Railway at Belton and CSX at Pelzer. The railroad is a subsidiary of Western Carolina Railway Service Corporation. History The Greenville, Spartanburg and Anderson Railway was formed in 1910 to build an interurban railroad between its namesake cities. The Pelzer-Belton segment was built as part of its mainline from Greenwood to Greenville between 1910-1912. This line became part of the Piedmont and Northern Railway in 1914. In 1919, the Greenville and Western Railway attempted to stop service on the line and tear up the railroad. The Twin Cities and Western Railroad is a railroad operating in the U.S. state of Minnesota which started operations on July 27, 1991. Trackage includes the former Soo Line Railroad "Ortonville Line", originally built as the first part of the Pacific extension of the Milwaukee Road. This main line extends from Hopkins, Minnesota (a Western suburb of the Twin Cities),to Appleton, Minnesota. The line was originally built between Hopkins and Cologne, Minnesota, in 1876 by Hastings and Dakota Railroad. In 1913, the Milwaukee Road rerouted it, reducing the curves. The line was eventually extended to the Pacific. As of 1991, the TCWR also has trackage rights over the BNSF Railway and the Canadian Pacific Railway. Georgia Midland Railroad
The Georgia Midland Railroad was a shortline railroad that operated several lines in Georgia that it acquired in 2004 from the initial operations of Ogeechee Railway. In 2009 the Georgia Midland was purchased by Pioneer RailCorp from Atlantic Western Transportation Company, the holding company for the Heart of Georgia Railroad. Pioneer renamed the railroad as the Georgia Southern Railway. Hauling an average of 5000 carloads per year of aggregate sand, stone, farm products and wood, the Georgia Midland Railroad connected with the Norfolk Southern Railway. Initially the Georgia Midland operated three branch lines, all within Georgia, connecting Roberta through Fort Valley to Perry, Dover through Statesboro to Metter, and Ardmore to Sylvania. The Nittany and Bald Eagle Railroad is a short line railroad that operates of track in Blair, Centre, and Clinton counties in Pennsylvania in the United States.
