Central Reserve Police Force
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is a central armed police force in India under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The CRPF assists states and Union Territories in maintaining law and order and internal security. It is composed of the Central Reserve Police Force ( Regular) and Central Reserve Police Force (Auxiliary). It was established on 27 July 1939 as Crown Representative's Police with the objective of providing security to the British Crown Representatives in India. The force was later renamed as the Central Reserve Police Force by an Act of Parliament in 1949. The CRPF played a major role in the Parliamentary elections of September 1999. Ram Nath Kovind ( ; born 1 October 1945) is an Indian politician and lawyer who served as the president of India from 2017 to 2022. He is the first person from Uttar Pradesh to serve as the president. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and also the first person from the party to become the president. The Central Reserve Police Force Academy, located in Kadarpur, Haryana, India, is a training institution of the CRPF. The CRPF Valley Quick Action Team is a Police Tactical Unit, tactical unit of the Central Reserve Police Force, specialized in counter-terrorism in urban areas. It is active in the city of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir (union territory), Jammu and Kashmir. It was raised specifically to counter and eliminate militants in the city of Srinagar. It conducts operations with the Jammu and Kashmir Police. History The Valley QAT was initially created in 2011 to escort and provide security for convoys and VIPs. In 2016, an attack on a Border Security Force, BSF camp near the Srinagar International Airport ended with the team killing all the attackers.
