''Rahgir'' (The Traveler) is a Bollywood romantic social drama film. It was released in 1969 and directed by Tarun Majumdar. The film was produced by Geetanjali Pictures and had music by Hemant Kumar. The film had Biswajeet playing the central role of Rahgir where his acting "attracted attention". Costarring with Biswajeet were Sandhya Roy, Shashikala, Kanhaiyalal, Iftekhar, Nirupa Roy and Asit Sen (actor), Asit Sen. The film was based on ''Angti Chattujjer Vai'', a Bengali novel of Manoj Basu. The story is about Biswajeet playing an impetuous young man in search "for the meaning of life" and is regarded as one of his most credible performances. Shashikala Saigal (née Jawalkar; 4 August 1932 – 4 April 2021), better known by her first name, was an Indian film and television actress, who played supporting roles in hundreds of Bollywood films beginning in the 1940s. Tarun Majumdar (or Mazumdar, 8 January 1931 – 4 July 2022) was an Indian film director, documentary filmmaker, author, illustrator and screenwriter who is known for his work in Bengali cinema. He received five National Awards, seven BFJA Awards, five Filmfare Awards and an Anandalok Award. In 1990, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award. He is recognized as one of the greatest influential filmmakers of India. '' Palatak'' is a 1963 Bengali film directed by Jatrik. The film features actors Anup Kumar, Sandhya Roy and Ruma Guha Thakurta in the lead roles. The film was based on ''Angti Chattujjer Vai'', a Bengali short story of Manoj Basu. Shyamsundar Ghosh composed the music for the film. The movie was remade in Hindi in 1969 as ''Rahgir''. Nirupa Roy
Nirupa Roy (born Kokila Kishorechandra Bulsara; 4 January 1931 – 13 October 2004) was an Indian actress who had appeared in Hindi films. Noted for her portrayals of tragedy and sorrow, Roy was known for her acting ability, and was uncharitably called the "Queen of Misery" in Hindi film circles. Roy was active from 1946 to 1999, and was best known for playing motherly roles. Iftekhar Ahmed Sharif (22 February 1920 – 4 March 1995), often mononymously credited as Iftekhar or Iftikhar, was an Indian actor who mainly worked in Hindi cinema. He is known for his film roles as a police officer. Career Iftekhar was born in Jalandhar and was the eldest among four brothers and a sister. After completing his matriculation, Iftekhar did a diploma course in painting from Lucknow College Of Arts. Kanhaiyalal (1910 14 August 1982) was an Indian actor who acted in 122 films in his career, primarily in Hindi films produced in Bollywood, the Mumbai-based film industry. Early life Kanhaiyalal was born in 1910 in Varanasi. His father Pandit Bhairodutt Choube, popularly known as Choubeji, was the proprietor of the Sanatan Dharm Natak Samaj in Varanasi. With his father not in agreement with him taking up any form of stage work, he eventually wore out his father's opposition and did odd jobs in the troupe.
