Ragland is a town in St. Clair County, Alabama, United States southeast of Ashville. It incorporated in 1899. At the 2010 census the population was 1,639, down from 1,918 in 2000. It is part of the Birmingham-Hoover-Cullman Combined Statistical Area. 1994 Tornado An F4 tornado struck from the southwest on Palm Sunday, March 27, 1994 at 10:55 a.m. At 11:27 a.m., the National Weather Service of Birmingham issued a tornado warning for northern Calhoun, southeastern Etowah, and southern Cherokee counties. Doria Loyce Ragland (born September 2, 1956) is an American social worker, and former makeup artist and yoga instructor. She is the mother of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. Early life Doria Ragland was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to nurse Jeanette Arnold (1929–2000) and her second husband Alvin Azell Ragland (1929–2011), an antiques dealer who sold items at flea markets. Ragland's maternal grandparents, James and Nettie Arnold, respectively worked as a bellhop and an elevator operator at the Hotel St. Regis on Euclid Avenue in Cleveland. Her parents moved to Los Angeles when Ragland was a baby and later divorced. In 1983, her father married kindergarten teacher Ava Burrow, who is near to Ragland's age; the two remained close after that marriage also ended in divorce. Hilda Pinnix-Ragland (born May 1955) is an American business executive and philanthropist. As the former Vice President of Corporate Public Affairs for Duke Energy, she was the first African-American woman to serve as a vice president at the company. She previously worked as the Vice President of Energy Delivery Services, Vice President of the North Region, and Vice President of Economic Development for Progress Energy Inc and was the first African-American woman to serve as a vice president. She currently serves on the board of directors for RTI International as Chair Audit & Risk Committee, in 2016, she was appointed to the 8 Rivers Capital, an energy technology company's Board and in 2020 she was appointed to the Board of Directors of Southwest Water Company. Joseph Alexander Ragland (born November 11, 1989) is an American-Liberian professional basketball player for Hapoel Holon of the Israeli Basketball Premier League. He played college basketball for North Platte Community College and Wichita State. Early life Ragland was born in Springfield, Massachusetts. He played basketball for West Springfield High School, where he earned the Lahovich Award as a senior. College career Ragland then committed to North Platte Community College in the NJCAA. Ragland was named a first team NJCAA all-American in 2010, as he led his team to an NJCAA tournament appearance, averaging 18.4 points per game on 56% from the field. Thomas Ragland
Sir Thomas Ragland (fl. 1563), of Carnllwyd, Glamorganshire, Wales and Roughton Holme, Norfolk and Walworth, Surrey, England, was a politician. Family Ragland was the eldest son of Sir John Ragland of Carnllwyd, who died by 1550. John Ragland had been knighted after the 1513 Battle of Guinegate by Henry VIII of England. He was also present at The Field of the Cloth of Gold. This Thomas Ragland (who is to be distinguished from his uncle Sir Thomas Ragland) succeeded his father in 1550. By 1551 he had married Ann Woodhouse, daughter of Sir Roger Woodhouse of Kimberley, Norfolk. She was the widow of Christopher Coningsby of Wallington, Norfolk and had daughters by him, whose inheritance she was careful to protect from Sir Thomas Ragland in her 1562 will. Thomas Ragland (born June 16, 1946) is an American former professional baseball player who appeared in 102 games in Major League Baseball, mostly as a second baseman, for the Washington Senators / Texas Rangers from to , and the Cleveland Indians in 1973. He also played for seven different minor league clubs in parts of nine seasons spanning 1965–1974. Born in Talladega, Alabama, and raised in Detroit, where he graduated from Northern High School, Ragland threw and batted right-handed, stood and weighed . His professional baseball career began when he was selected by Washington in the 15th round of the first-ever amateur draft. He would not reach the MLB Senators until 1971, when he had early and late season auditions for the team, which was playing its final season in Washington.
