Rafters (nightclub)
Rafters, later known as Jilly's, was a nightclub located in St. James Buildings, Manchester, St. James Buildings, Wilmslow Road, Oxford Street, Manchester city centre, Manchester, England. Some well-known bands played concerts at Rafters in the 1970s and 1980s. Rob Gretton, who went on to become the manager of Joy Division, worked at Rafters. It featured in the biographical film ''Control (2007 film), Control'' (2007). History Rafters opened in Manchester in the 1970s in Wilmslow Road#Oxford Street, St James's Buildings in Oxford Street. Sad Café are an English rock music, rock band formed in Manchester in 1976, who achieved their peak of popularity in the late 1970s and early 1980s. They are best known for the UK top 40 singles "Every Day Hurts", "Strange Little Girl", "My Oh My (Sad Café song), My Oh My" and "I'm in Love Again", the first of which was their biggest hit, reaching number 3 on the UK Singles Chart in 1979. London are an English four-piece punk band formed in London in 1976, best known for their wild stage act.Napier-Bell, Simon (2001) ''Black Vinyl White Powder'', Ebury Press, , p. 163 The original line-up was Riff Regan (vocals), Steve Voice (bass guitar), Jon Moss (drums) and Dave Wight (guitar). They were managed by Simon Napier-Bell and recorded two singles, a four-track EP and an album for MCA Records in 1977. Most of their songs were written by Riff Regan (including the first two singles "Everyone's a Winner" and "Summer of Love") or by Regan and Steve Voice. All their records were produced by Napier-Bell at the IBC Studios in London. After an absence of more than 30 years the band returned to live performance, and subsequently released the album ''Reboot'' in 2012. The Distractions
The Distractions are an English punk rock/ new wave band from Manchester, England. History The band was originally formed in 1975 by college friends Mike Finney (vocals) and Steve Perrin (guitar), alongside Lawrence Tickle (bass) and Tony Trappe (drums). The band changed tack with the advent of punk in 1977 and Finney and Perrin recruited a new line-up of Pip Nicholls (bass), Adrian Wright (guitar), and Alec Sidebottom (drums, formerly of The Purple Gang), now mixing punk rock with sixties influences. They shared bills with the likes of Buzzcocks, Magazine and Joy Division, and their debut EP, ''You're Not Going Out Dressed Like That'', released in 1979, led to a deal with Factory Records, who released the follow-up, ''Time Goes By So Slow''. Buzzcocks
Buzzcocks are an English punk rock band that singer-songwriter-guitarist Pete Shelley and singer-songwriter Howard Devoto formed in Manchester in 1976. During their career, the band combined elements of punk rock, power pop, and pop punk. They achieved commercial success with singles that fuse pop craftsmanship with rapid-fire punk energy; these singles were later collected on '' Singles Going Steady'', an acclaimed compilation album music journalist and critic Ned Raggett described as a "punk masterpiece". Devoto left the band in 1977 and formed Magazine, after which Pete Shelley became the principal singer-songwriter. The classic lineup of Shelley, Steve Diggle (guitar), Steve Garvey (bass) and John Maher (drums) recorded Buzzcocks' first three albums, after which the band broke up in 1981 following a dispute with their record label.
