Rafig Huseynov (announcer)
Rafig Eyyub oglu Huseynov ( az, Rafiq Eyyub oğlu Hüseynov; 1946 – 2017) was a Soviet– Azerbaijani TV announcer, host, actor and singer. He received the honorary title of the People's Artist of the Azerbaijani SSR in 1990, and was awarded the State Prize of the Azerbaijani SSR in 1991. Early life Rafig Eyyub oglu Huseynov was born on 4 August 1946, in Shusha of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast, the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic, Azerbaijani SSR, which was then part of the Soviet Union. Born into a merchant family, he grew up in Baku, and lost his father at an early age. Huseynov entered the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts, Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts and graduated from there in 1976. Career Huseynov worked as an illuminator at the AzTV, State Committee for Radio and Television Broadcasting under the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic, Azerbaijani SSR from July 1964. AzTV
AzTV or Azerbaijan Television ( az, Azərbaycan Televiziyası) is a state-controlled national television channel in Azerbaijan. It is the oldest television channel in the country, having first broadcast from Baku on 14 February 1956 in what was then the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic, Soviet Union. Organisation The channel has been owned since 2005 by the Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting Closed Joint-stock Company ( az, Azərbaycan Televiziya və Radio Verilişləri Qapalı Səhmdar Cəmiyyəti, links=no), of which the national government is the only shareholder. This company also owns the channels İdman Azərbaycan TV ''(Sport Azerbaijan TV)'' and Mədəniyyət TV ''(Culture TV)''. The ''Azerbaijan'' ( az, Azərbaycan) is a state-owned newspaper and public journal published by the National Assembly of Azerbaijan. History The official newspaper of the ADR government "Azerbaijan" was established in 1918. The government by its order of 3 July 1918, decided on the launch of the publication "the News of Azerbaijani Republic" under its official authority. Thus, the first issue of the "Azerbaijan" newspaper was published as the parliamentary paper on 15 September 1918, on the same day, when the Caucasus Islamic Army freed Baku from Armenian-Bolshevik invasion. Rashid Behbudov State Song Theatre
The Azerbaijan State Song Theatre named after Rashid Behbudov ( az, Rəşid Behbudov adına Dövlət Mahnı Teatrı) is located in Azerbaijan's capital, Baku, on Rashid Behbudov Street, and is named after Rashid Behbudov, who founded it in 1968. The theatre building was originally built as a synagogue in 1901. It is in the Greek Revival style, with an Ionic order portico, and in the ornamented pediment there is a central lyre where a representation of the Tablets of Stone once featured. Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict
The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is an ethnic and territorial conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh, inhabited mostly by ethnic Armenians, and seven surrounding districts, inhabited mostly by Azerbaijanis until their expulsion during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War. Some of these territories are ''de facto'' controlled, and some are claimed by the breakaway Republic of Artsakh although they have been internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan. Black January ( az, Qara Yanvar), also known as Black Saturday or the January Massacre, was a violent crackdown on the civilian population of Baku on 19–20 January 1990, as part of a state of emergency during the dissolution of the Soviet Union. General Secretary of the Soviet Communist Party Mikhail Gorbachev and Defence Minister Dmitry Yazov asserted that military law was necessary to thwart efforts by the Azerbaijani independence movement to overthrow the Soviet Azerbaijani government. The Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast (NKAO), DQMV, hy, Լեռնային Ղարաբաղի Ինքնավար Մարզ, ԼՂԻՄ was an autonomous oblast within the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic that was created on July 7, 1923.
