Bullfighter
A bullfighter or matador () is a performer in the activity of bullfighting. ''Torero'' () or ''toureiro'' (), both from Latin ''taurarius'', are the Spanish and Portuguese words for bullfighter, and describe all the performers in the activity of bullfighting as practised in Spain, Portugal, Mexico, Peru, France, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela and other countries influenced by Portuguese and Spanish culture. The main performer and leader of the entourage in a bullfight, and who finally kills the bull, is addressed as ''maestro'' (master), or with the formal title ''matador de toros'' (killer of bulls). The other bullfighters in the entourage are called ''subalternos'' and their suits are embroidered in silver as opposed to the matador's gold. They include the '' picadores'', '' rejoneadores'', and ''banderilleros''. Present since the sport's earliest history, the number of women in bullfighting has steadily increased since the late-19 century, both on foot and on horseback ...

Paco Camino
Francisco Camino Sánchez (; 14 December 1940 – 29 July 2024), known in the bullfighting world as Paco Camino (), was a Spanish bullfighter and bull breeder. A bullfighter of the highest order, he dominated tauromachy and was twelve times borne shoulder-high out through the Great Gate at Las Ventas in Madrid, a record bested only by Santiago Martín Sánchez (" El Viti"). Early life Camino's association with bullfighting went all the way back to his baptism, at which he was covered with a ''capote de paseo''. Furthermore, Camino's father was the former ''novillero'' Rafael Camino ("Rafaelillo de Camas"), who accompanied him for a while as a '' banderillero''. He was nicknamed ''"el Niño sabio de Camas"'' ("The Wise Child from Camas") for his precocity in the art of bullfighting. This byname was given him by the bullfighting critic Antonio Díaz-Cañabate. Before giving himself over wholly to bullfighting, Camino was an employee at a baker's oven. Bullfighting career Camino ...

Alternativa (bullfighting)
The ''alternativa'' ("alternative"), in Spanish-style bullfighting, is the act by which a ''novillero'' is authorized to be considered a ''torero'', so that he can alternate in bullfighting with other bullfighters of the same category, both in bullfighting on foot and on horseback. From the point of view of anthropology, it can be considered that taking the ''alternativa'' is a rite of passage or transition in which the bullfighter completes one stage of his formation to start another in which he becomes a professional matador of bulls. This change becomes effective with the ritual or ceremony of the ''alternativa'' and in the symbolism of the presentation of the bullfighter in society, in which he dons the ''traje de luces The ('suit of lights') is the traditional clothing that Spanish bullfighters (, , and ) wear in the bullring. The term originates from the sequins and reflective threads of gold or silver. These are based on the flamboyant costumes of the 18 ...'' ("sui ...

Bullfighting
Bullfighting is a physical contest that involves a bullfighter attempting to subdue, immobilize, or kill a bull, usually according to a set of rules, guidelines, or cultural expectations. There are several variations, including some forms which involve dancing around or leaping over a cow or bull or attempting to grasp an object tied to the animal's horns. The best-known form of bullfighting is Spanish-style bullfighting, practiced in Spain and its former American colonies, as well as parts of Portugal (see: Portuguese-style bullfighting) and Southern France. The Spanish Fighting Bull is bred for its aggression and physique, and is raised free-range with little human contact. The practice of bullfighting is controversial because of a range of concerns including animal welfare, funding, and religion. While some forms are considered a blood sport, in some countries, for example Spain, it is defined as an art form or cultural event, and local regulations define it as a cu ...
