Raffi Cavoukian (, born July 8, 1948), known professionally by the mononym Raffi, is an Armenian-Canadian singer-lyricist and author born in Egypt best known for his children's music. Raffi (novelist)
Hakob Melik Hakobian ( ( classical); 1835 – 25 April 1888), better known by his pen name Raffi (), was an Armenian author and leading figure in 19th-century Armenian literature. He is considered one of the most influential and popular modern Armenian authors. His works, especially his historical novels, played an important role in the development of modern Armenian nationalism. Ara Baliozian described him as Armenia's "greatest novelist of the 19th century." Biography Raffi was born in 1835 in the village of Payajuk in the district of Salmas in northwestern Iran. Fingerstyle guitar is the technique of guitar picking, playing the guitar or bass guitar by plucking the strings directly with the fingertips, fingernails, or picks attached to fingers, as opposed to flatpicking (plucking individual notes with a single plectrum, commonly called a "pick"). The term "fingerstyle" is something of a misnomer, since it is present in several different genres and styles of music—but mostly, because it involves a completely different technique, not just a "style" of playing, especially for the guitarist's picking/plucking hand. David Karl William Wilcox (born July 13, 1949) is a Canadian rock musician. Early life Born in Montreal, Wilcox drew inspiration from musician Elvis Presley at the age of six. Wilcox began playing guitar at the age of seven, having his first live performance (to a room of ex-convicts) at twelve years old. Wilcox dropped out of high school. Career In 1970, Wilcox replaced Amos Garrett in Ian and Sylvia Tyson’s band, Great Speckled Bird, playing backup for acts such as Anne Murray, Carl Perkins, and Charlie Rich. Onnig J. "Cavouk" Cavoukian (born 1945) is a Canadian-Armenian photographer. Life and career Born in Cairo in 1945 to ethnic Armenian parents Artin and Lucie Cavoukian, Onnig Cavoukian moved with his family from Cairo to Canada in 1958. He is the brother of the well-known Canadian children's entertainer Raffi and of Ann Cavoukian, the former Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario. Onnig Cavoukian followed in the footsteps of his grandfather Ohanness Cavoukian and his father Artin in becoming a portrait photographer.
