Rafael Azcona
Rafael Azcona Fernández (24 October 1926 – 24 March 2008) was a Spanish screenwriter and novelist who worked with some of the best Spanish and international filmmakers. Azcona won five Goya Awards during his career, including a lifetime achievement award in 1998. He was born in the northern Spanish city Logroño on 24 October 1926. Azcona initially began his career writing for humor magazines. He became known as a screenwriter when he penned the screenplay for the film, ''El Pisito'' (''The Little Apartment''), which was based on his own novel. The 1959 film was directed by Italian film director, Marco Ferreri. Azcona teamed up with director Fernando Trueba in “Belle Époque (1992 film), Belle Époque,” which won an Academy Award for best foreign film in 1994. Logroño
Logroño ( , , ) is the capital of the autonomous community of La Rioja (Spain), La Rioja, Spain. Located in the north of the Iberian Peninsula, primarily in the right (South) bank of the Ebro River, Logroño has historically been a place of passage, such as the Camino de Santiago. ''Plácido'' is a 1961 Spanish black comedy film directed by Luis García Berlanga. It was nominated to the Academy Award as Best Foreign Language Film. It was also entered into the 1962 Cannes Film Festival. In the film, affluent women in a provincial town organize a Christmas campaign of feeding the poor. They are actually both disgusted by the poor, and treating them as their personal possessions. Meanwhile, the impoverished owner of a motorcycle car tries to find enough money to pay for his vehicle. ''El Pisito'' is a 1959 Spanish black comedy film directed by Marco Ferreri. The Spanish Ministry of Culture forced the producers to sign the film as co-directed by Spaniard Isidoro M. Ferry. It was co-written by famous Spanish screenwriter Rafael Azcona, who collaborated with Ferreri throughout his career. The film was starred by Spanish actor José Luis López Vázquez in his first leading role. The film depicts widespread poverty in 1950s Madrid. A long-term couple feels unable to marry, because they can not afford the acquisition of a home. They decide that the man will enter a marriage of convenience with the woman's elderly landlady, in hopes of inheriting the lease of the landlady's property. Carlos Saura
Carlos Saura Atarés (4 January 1932 – 10 February 2023) was a Spanish film director, photographer and writer. With Luis Buñuel and Pedro Almodóvar, he is considered to be among Spain's great filmmakers. He had a long and prolific career that spanned over half a century, and his films won many international awards. Saura began his career in 1955 making documentary shorts. He gained international prominence when his first feature-length film premiered at Cannes Film Festival in 1960.
