Radyo An Gernewegva
; abbreviated as RanG) is a radio service broadcasting through the medium of the Cornish language both online, via podcast, and on several community radio stations in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is a not-for-profit organisation, and receives some funding through the Cornish Language Partnership. It is produced by KernowPods. History The service began in 2007 as 'Nowodhow an Seythun' (News of the Week). This was a short 4 minute podcast, distributed each week through a collection of Cornish cultural websites. This service was increased to half an hour each week in 2008, and adopted the new name "Radyo an Gernewegva". The format changed at this point to become a magazine programme, incorporating music, discussion and news. Penryn, Cornwall
Penryn (; , meaning 'promontory') is a civil parish and town in west Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is on the Penryn River about northwest of Falmouth. The population was 7,166 in the 2001 census and had been reduced to 6,812 in the 2011 census, a drop of more than 300 people across the ten-year time gap. There are two electoral wards covering Penryn: 'Penryn East and Mylor' and 'Penryn West'. The total population of both wards in the 2011 census was 9,790. Though now the town is overshadowed by the larger nearby town of Falmouth, Penryn was once an important harbour in its own right, lading granite and tin to be shipped to other parts of the country and world during the medieval period. Nicholas Williams (poet)
Nicholas Jonathan Anselm Williams (born October 1942 in Walthamstow, Essex), sometimes credited as N. J. A. Williams, is a leading expert and poet in the Cornish language. Life While a pupil at Chigwell School, Essex, Williams taught himself Cornish and became a bard of the Cornish Gorseth Kernow, Gorseth while still in his teens, taking the bardic name ''Golvan'' ('Sparrow'). He read classical languages, English language and Celtic in Oxford University, Oxford. After short periods in the universities of Belfast (where he received his PhD) and Liverpool, he was appointed lecturer in Irish in University College Dublin in 1977. In 2006 he was appointed Associate Professor in Celtic Languages there. He married Patricia Smyth from Portadown, County Armagh in 1976. Tim Saunders is a Cornish poet and journalist primarily writing in the Cornish language who also writes in the Welsh, Irish, and Breton languages. He is resident in Cardiff but is of Cornish descent. He is a literary historian and editor of 'The Wheel' – an anthology of modern poetry in Cornish 1850–1980. ''High Tide'' is a collection of his own poems in Cornish from the years 1974 to 1999. He was made bard of the Gorsedh Kernow in 1998, taking the bardic name (Poet of the People). The station launched from its studios in Penzance on 5 November 2016 as a re-brand of Penwith Radio.
