Radiy Khabirov
Radiy Faritovich Khabirov (; ; born 20 March 1964) is a Russian politician and statesman. He is the current Head of the Republic of Bashkortostan since 11 October 2018; he is also the Candidate of Law, Honored Lawyer of the Republic of Bashkortostan. He is a member of United Russia. Biography Khabirov was born in the village of Sayranovo in the Ishimbaysky District of Bashkir ASSR. He is an ethnic Bashkir. From 1982 until 1984, he served in the Soviet Army. From 1984, he was a student at BashSU as well as assistant of the Department of State Law and Soviet Building of the law faculty in the same university; at the same time, he was chairman of the trade union committee of students. During 1992–1994 he was an undergraduate student at Bilkent University. From 1994 until 1998, Khabirov was a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Law, BSU. 2024 Bashkortostan Protests
The 2024 Bashkortostan protests () are a series of protests started on 15 January 2024 beginning in the Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia, sparked by the authorities initiating a criminal case against the Bashkir environmental activist Fail Alsynov, who was subsequently sentenced to four years in prison. This led to demonstrations in the town of Baymak, where at least 1,000 Bashkir protesters assembled. The protests resulted in clashes with the riot police, who in response deployed tear gas and batons against the protesters. The protests spread into the regional capital of Ufa on 19 January, where 10 people were arrested in response. Kushtau
Kushtau () – is a shihan hill located in Ishimbaysky District along with Sterlitamak city's border, Russia. The mountain is a reef of an ancient tropical sea of the Lower Permian ( Late Paleozoic) period formed over 230 million years ago. Mining controversy In 2018 the mountain was intended to be developed as quarry to extract chalk by local authorities. The Bashkir soda company was interested in buying mining rights, but the development plan was protested by a group of local eco-activists, who prevented it from getting access to the mountain. Murtaza Rakhimov
Murtaza Gubaydullovich Rakhimov (; ; 7 February 1934 – 11 January 2023) was a Russian politician of Bashkir ethnicity who served as the first President of Bashkortostan, a republic within Russia, from 1993 to 2010. Biography Rakhimov was born on 7 February 1934 in the village of Tavakanovo of Kugarchinsky District of the Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. After graduating from the Ufa Oil Technical School, he began working at the Ufa refinery named XXII Congress of the CPSU.
