Radium Hot Springs, informally and commonly called Radium is a village of 1,339 residents in the East Kootenay region of British Columbia. The village is named for the hot springs in the nearby Kootenay National Park. From Banff, Alberta, it is accessible via Highway 93. The hot springs were named after the radioactive element when an analysis of the water showed that it contained small traces of radon which is a decay product of radium. The radiation dosage from bathing in the pools is inconsequential: approximately from the water for a half-hour bathing, around ten times average background levels. Radium Springs is an unincorporated community located on the southeast outskirts of Albany in Dougherty County, Georgia, United States. It is part of the Albany Metropolitan Statistical Area. Radium Springs is best known as the location of one of the " Seven Natural Wonders of Georgia": the largest natural spring in the state. The deep blue waters of Radium Springs flow at per minute and empty into the Flint River. There is also an extensive underwater cavern system. It is part of the Las Cruces Metropolitan Statistical Area. Geography Radium Springs is at the upstream end of the Mesilla Valley of the Rio Grande. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 6.0 square miles (19.6 km), all land. Radium Hot Springs is a thermal mineral spring near the small town of Radium, Colorado, located halfway between Kremmling and State Bridge, in Grand County, Colorado. Description The springs emerge from several sources near the edge of the Colorado River. A large primitive soaking pool with a sandy bottom has been constructed against a sheer rock cliff. The rock-lined soaking pool is reached by way of climbing down a fifty foot long rock chimney via footholds and handholds in the rock. The pool is 2 feet deep and approximately 10 by 18 feet. It fits approximately 10 to 20 people. It is dangerous to attempt to jump from the soaking pool on the rock cliff to the river below, and serious injuries could be incurred. "Discovered" in 1905 and opened as a spa by G. P. Gehring in 1908, the owners claimed that the water was radioactive, germicidal, and blood purifying. Keough Hot Springs
Keough Hot Springs is located in the Owens Valley of California, about seven miles south of the city of Bishop on US Highway 395. History The area around these hot springs was originally inhabited by the local native Paiutes, who considered the waters sacred. Today there is a very small community of homes, and a commercial resort featuring a large swimming pool which was built and first opened in August 1918 by Philip P. Keough, a former local superintendent of the Wells Fargo stage company. Keough's resort was very popular in the 1920s and 30's and was designed to be a complete health resort. The resort reportedly continued to be a very popular social gathering site for residents of the nearby communities up until the World War II era.
