Radisson Lake (Saskatchewan)
Radisson Lake is an endorheic salt lake in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It is located about north of the town of Radisson in the Rural Municipality of Great Bend No. 405. The lake is in the transition zone between mixed grassland and aspen parkland. Radisson Lake and the nearby town are named after Pierre-Esprit Radisson, who was a French coureur des bois and explorer in New France. He, and his brother-in-law Médard des Groseilliers, were instrumental in the development of the Hudson's Bay Company. Access to Radisson Lake is from Rural Road, which connects to Highway 340. The Yellowhead Highway runs past the southern shore of the lake. The entire lake and surrounding shoreline is part of an Important Bird Area (IBA) of Canada. Médard Des Groseilliers
Médard Chouart des Groseilliers (born 1618) was a French explorer and fur trader in Canada. He is often paired with his brother-in-law Pierre-Esprit Radisson, who was about 20 years younger. The pair worked together in fur trading and exploration. Their decision to enter British service led to the foundation of the Hudson's Bay Company in 1670. This company established trading posts and extensive relations with the First Nations in western Canada. It was highly influential in making the region amenable to British colonization. Radisson, with Groseiliers, also mapped many of the Great Lakes and trading routes used by settlers. Endorheic Lakes Of Canada
An endorheic basin ( ; also endoreic basin and endorreic basin) is a drainage basin that normally retains water and allows no outflow to other external bodies of water (e.g. rivers and oceans); instead, the water drainage flows into permanent and seasonal lakes and swamps that equilibrate through evaporation. Endorheic basins are also called closed basins, terminal basins, and internal drainage systems. Endorheic regions contrast with open lakes (exorheic regions), where surface waters eventually drain into the ocean. In general, water basins with subsurface outflows that lead to the ocean are not considered endorheic; but cryptorheic. Endorheic basins constitute local base levels, defining a limit of the erosion and deposition processes of nearby areas.
