Radiohuset
Radiohuset (literally "The Radio House") is the former headquarters of national Danish broadcaster DR, located on Rosenørns Allé in Frederiksberg, Copenhagen. The building complex was inaugurated in 1945 to a Functionalist design by Vilhelm Lauritzen and later expanded in 1958 and 1972. Vacated by DR when DR Byen was inaugurated in 2006, the buildings now house the Royal Danish Academy of Music as well as the Museum of Music once it reopens. The complex also contains a concert hall. The building was listed in 1994. History During the first years of its existence, Danish Broadcasting Corporation (Danish Statsradiofonien) was based at various locations in Copenhagen, including in Stærekassen on Kongens Nytorv and in Axelborg on Vesterbrogade. Vilhelm Lauritzen
Vilhelm Lauritzen (9 September 1894 – 22 December 1984) was a leading Danish modern architect, founder of the still active architectural firm Vilhelm Lauritzen Arkitekter. Biography Vilhelm Lauritzen was born in Slagelse, Denmark. He studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, graduating in 1921. The following year he founded his own firm, Vilhelm Lauritzen Arkitekter, in 1928 and remained active in the firm until 1969. He received the Academy's Gold Medal in 1926 and up through the 1920s he created a number of monumental designs in a classicist style which were never realized.Anne-Louise Sommer: Towards the end of the decade he travelled in Central Europe and became acquainted with the latest trends in Functionalist architecture with its technical and structural innovations. TV-Byen
TV-Byen is the former headquarters of national Danish broadcaster DR, located in Gladsaxe, approximately 9 kilometres northwest of central Copenhagen, Denmark. The 207,000 m2 site has been redeveloped with a mixture of offices, housing and retail after DR inaugurated their new headquarters, DR Byen in 2007. History The Radio House (''Radiohuset'') in Frederiksberg was completed as a new home for DR in 1945. The building was designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen. In the 1950s, with the increasing role of the television media, the building became too small. A design competition for a new headquarters in Gladsaxe, northwest of Copenhagen, was won by Vilhelm Lauritzen's studio. Their winning proposal was designed by Mogens Boertmann. DR (broadcaster)
DR (), officially the Danish Broadcasting Corporation in English, is a Danish public-service radio and television broadcasting company. Founded in 1925 as a public-service organization, it is Denmark's oldest and largest electronic media enterprise. DR is a founding member of the European Broadcasting Union. DR was originally funded by a media licence, however since 2022, the media license has been replaced by an addition to the Danish income tax. Today, DR operates three television channels, all of which are distributed free-to-air via a nationwide DVB-T2 network. DR also operates seven radio channels. All are available nationally on DAB+ radio and online, with the four original stations also available on FM radio. Royal Danish Academy Of Music
The Royal Danish Academy of Music, or Royal Danish Conservatory of Music ( da, Det Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium), in Copenhagen is the oldest professional institution of musical education in Denmark as well as the largest, with approximately 400 students. It was established in 1867 as ''Kjøbenhavns Musikkonservatorium'' by Niels Gade – who was also the first rector –, J.P.E. Hartmann and Holger Simon Paulli on the basis of a testamentary gift from the jeweler P.W. Moldenhauer, and with inspiration from the Leipzig Conservatory and a conservatory founded by Giuseppe Siboni in Copenhagen in 1827. Carl Nielsen was a teacher in the period 1916–1919 and the rector during the last year of his life. Gudmund Nyeland Brandt
Gudmund Nyeland Brandt (17 March 1878 in Frederiksberg – 30 April 1945 in Kessel-lo) was a Danish landscape architect who was internationally renowned. Career Brandt was born at Frederiksberg, Denmark. His father, Peter Christoffer Brandt, was a gardener, bank manager and parish bailiff in Ordrup, Denmark. His mother was Anna Kirstine Nyeland. He graduated from Ordrup Gymnasium 1897 and earned a M.A. in Philosophy the following year. Then he was trained as a gardener by trade gardener N. Jensen, Valby 1899–1901, was in England 1901-02 and at the Jardin des plantes, Paris 1902. He came to Germany in 1903 and was later in Belgium. He was first employed by his father at P. Brandt commercial horticulture at Ørnekulsvej 3 (former Ellensvej) Ordrup in 1904. Stærekassen ( lit. "The Starling Nest Box"), also known as Ny Scene (English: New Stage) is a theatre building annexed to the Royal Danish Theatre on Kongens Nytorv in Copenhagen, Denmark. It opened in 1931 to serve a dual purpose as an additional stage for the Royal Theatre and the first home of the new Danish Broadcasting Corporation. The colloquial name, which has now obtained official status, refers to the design of the stage tower in the shape of a box suspended above the street, and in the initial design proposals with a large round window high up as the dominating ornamental feature of the facade. Finn Juhl (30 January 1912 – 17 May 1989) was a Danish architect, interior and industrial designer, most known for his furniture design. He was one of the leading figures in the creation of Danish design in the 1940s and he was the designer who introduced Danish modern to America. Biography Early life and education Finn Juhl was born on 30 January 1912 to an authoritarian father who was a textile wholesaler representing several English, Scottish and Swiss textile manufacturers in Denmark, and a mother who died shortly after he was born. From an early age he wanted to become an art historian, already as a teenager spending much time at the Statens Museum for Kunst and in spite of his young age receiving permission to borrow books at the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, but his father convinced him instead to pursue a career in architecture. Rosenørns Allé is a street located on the border between Frederiksberg and Nørrebro, on the west side of The Lakes, in Copenhagen, Denmark. The street branches from the south side of the busy thoroughfare Kampmannsgade-Åboulevard at the west end of the embankment which separates St. Jørgen's Lake from Peblinge Lake, runs west to Julius Thomsens Plads and then continues in a more northwesterly direction to Bülowsvej where it turns into Rolighedsvej and later Godthåbsvej before reaching Bellahøj in Brønshøj.
