Radio Television Brunei (, Jawi: راديو تيليۏيشين بروني, officially abbreviated as RTB) is the national public broadcaster of Brunei, headquartered at the Secretariat Building, Bandar Seri Begawan. Radio Brunei made its first broadcast on 2 May 1957, with a television service starting on 1 March 1975. Modelled after Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), which is a government department, RTB came into its current state with its present name in 1975 after the merger of its radio and television services. RTB monopolises the free-to-air television in the country, and also radio until 1999, when the country's only commercial radio station, Kristal FM was founded. Currently, it operates 3 television channels and 5 radio stations as well as an over-the-top streaming service, RTB Go. The broadcaster's logo was based from the national emblem of Brunei. Pusat Bandar ( English: ''City Centre'') is the city centre of Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei. It is home to a number of national landmarks, important government offices, and commercial and financial establishments. Administration The city centre is part of the municipal area of the capital. Radio Televisyen Malaysia (, Jawi: ; abbreviated as RTM, stylised as rtm), also known as the Department of Broadcasting, Malaysia (; Jawi: ) is the national public broadcaster of Malaysia, headquartered at Angkasapuri, Kuala Lumpur. Established on 1 April 1946 as Radio Malaya, it is the first and the oldest broadcaster in the country. After Malaysia was formed on 16 September 1963, Radio Malaya was renamed Radio Malaysia. On 28 December that year, television service in Malaysia began with the establishment of Televisyen Malaysia. The Sultan of Brunei is the monarchical head of state of Brunei and head of government in his capacity as prime minister of Brunei. Since independence from the British in 1984, only one sultan has reigned, though the royal institution dates back to the 14th century. RTB Perdana
RTB Perdana (formerly known as RTB1 and Television Brunei, stylised as RTB perdana) is the oldest free-to-air terrestrial television channel in Brunei. The channel officially began broadcasting on 1 March 1975. RTB Perdana broadcasts for 05:40 until 23:20 BST followed by a prayer in Makkah filling the rest of its broadcasting time. It mainly shows documentaries, educational programs and news during its broadcasting time. History Brunei was first scheduled to have long-term plans for a television service as far back as 1964, when a representant of the Marconi Company had visited Brunei early that year, carried a geographic survey and sent a report to the government. ''Berita Harian'' (Malay language, Malay for "Daily News") is the sole Malay language, Malay-language broadsheet newspaper published in Singapore. It is published daily from Monday to Saturday, and on Sunday as ''Berita Minggu'' (Malay language, Malay: "Sunday News"). It was founded on 1 July 1957. The newspaper was revamped in May 2013. It had an average daily circulation of 52,500 in 2012. This newspaper is indirectly related to the Malaysian newspaper of the same name, ''Berita Harian.'' Although both were established on the same date, 1 July 1957, they were split in September 1972 as the Singaporean one is non-politically aligned whilst the Malaysian one remains aligned with United Malays National Organisation. ''BH'', previously known as ''Berita Harian'', is a Malay daily newspaper in Malaysia, published by the New Straits Times Press. It was first issued on 1 July 1957. Its Sunday edition, ''BH Ahad'' (formerly ''Berita Minggu''), debuted on 10th of July 1960. By 2004, ''Berita Harian'' had a daily circulation of around 238,000 copies. Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien (Jawi script, Jawi: ; 23 September 1914 – 7 September 1986) was the 28th Sultan of Brunei, reigning from 1950 until his abdication in 1967 to his oldest son, Hassanal Bolkiah. Over the course of his 17-year reign, Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III significantly altered Brunei. He also created the Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB) philosophy, which is the country's guiding ideology.
