Radical Students Union
The Radical Students Union (RSU) was a frontal organization of the Communist Party of India (Maoist), a Naxalite group. Founded in 1974, it became defunct after 2005. In 2011 there were indications of plans to revive the organization. History The RSU was formed on 12 October 1974 in Andhra Pradesh. Originally it was linked to the Central Organising Committee, Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist). The first vice-president was C. V. Subbarao, who was arrested a few months after Emergency began in 1975, and remained in jail until 28 March 1977. At first the organization was brutally suppressed, but after The Emergency was lifted in March 1977, it sprang back into life. The second president of the union was Cherukuri Rajkumar, serving until 1984, who went on to become a senior Naxalite commander. Communist Party Of India (Maoist)
The Communist Party of India (Maoist) is a Marxist–Leninist–Maoist banned communist political party and militant organization in India which aims to overthrow the "semi-colonial and semi-feudal Indian state" through protracted people's war. It was founded on 21 September 2004, through the merger of the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) People's War (People's War Group) and the Maoist Communist Centre of India (MCCI). The CPI (Maoist) are also known as the Naxalites, in reference to the Naxalbari insurrection conducted by radical Maoists in West Bengal since 1967. The party has been designated as a terrorist organisation in India under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act since 2009. Maoist Communist Centre
The Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) was one of the largest two armed Maoist groups in India, and fused with the other, the People's War Group in September 2004, to form the Communist Party of India (Maoist). Dakshin Desh When the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) was founded in 1969, rallying various Maoist tendencies into a unified organisation, some groups retained a separate identity and remained outside of CPI(ML). One such group was nicknamed ''Dakshin Desh'', after the name of its publication. The group had begun publishing ''Dakshin Desh'' in along Maoist lines. The group was joined by a sector of trade union activists. Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) () is a right-wing all India student organisation affiliated to the Hindu nationalist organization Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). History The ABVP, founded in 1948 with the initiative of the RSS activist Balraj Madhok, was formally registered on 9 July 1949. Its purpose when founded was to counter communist influence on university campuses. Yashwant Rao Kelkar, a lecturer in Bombay, became its main organiser in 1958. According to the ABVP website, he built the organisation into what it is now and is considered to be 'the real architect of the ABVP'. Various branches of the ABVP have been involved in Hindu-Muslim communal riots since 1961. The All India Revolutionary Students Federation (AIRSF) was a frontal organisation of the Communist Party of India (Maoist). History The Radical Students Union (RSU) organised an all-India seminar in Madras in August 1981 to discuss the nationality question in India. The Revolutionary Students' Organisations Co-ordination Committee (RSOCC) was formed as a follow-up step. Four years later, in 1985 the All India Revolutionary Students' Federation held its first conference in Hyderabad. Yalavarthi Naveen Babu, later to become a senior Naxalite leader, became editor of the AIRSF magazine ''Kalam'' in 1990. The AIRSF was banned in Andhra Pradesh, but in 2004 the state government lifted the ban to allow for peace talks. The Radical Youth League (RYL) is a frontal organisation of the Communist Party of India (Maoist), a Naxalite group, mainly operating in Andhra Pradesh. History The Radical Students Union (RSU) was formed in 1974, and the Radical Youth League (RYL) in 1977. Radical Youth League units were established by revolutionaries in Andhra Pradesh in 1978 during their "Go To Village" campaigns to propagate agrarian revolution. They were banned in Andhra Pradesh, but in 2004 the state government lifted the ban to allow for peace talks. New Democratic Revolution
New Democracy, or the New Democratic Revolution, is a concept based on Mao Zedong's Bloc of Four Social Classes theory in post-revolutionary China which argued originally that democracy in China would take a path that was decisively distinct from that in any other country. He also said every colonial or semi-colonial country would have its own unique path to democracy, given that particular country's own social and material conditions. Mao labeled representative democracy in the Western nations as Old Democracy, characterizing parliamentarianism as just an instrument to promote the dictatorship of the bourgeoisie/ land-owning class through manufacturing consent. Yalavarthi Naveen Babu
Yalavarthi Naveen Babu (29 May 1964 – 18 February 2000), or simply Naveen, was a Naxalite leader in India. Yalavarthi Naveen Babu was born on 29 May 1964 in Guddikayalanka village, Bapatla district, Andhra Pradesh, India. His family were farmers from middle class background. Naveen studied at Babu Jagjivan Ram College, Hyderabad, where he obtained a B.Sc. He moved to Meerut University in 1984, where he started studying for his MA in Sociology in 1984. In 1986, he transferred to Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, gaining an MA in 1988 and starting to study for a PhD. The Delhi Radical Students Organisation (DRSO) was formed in 1986, and Naveen joined this group in 1988. The DRSO was part of the Radical Students Union.
