Rackheath Eco-town
The Rackheath Eco-town is a proposal for just over 5,000 houses to be built in the Rackheath area, in Norfolk, within a mile of The Broads National Park. The controversial proposals have been featured on many programmes, including BBC One's Politics Show, BBC One's BBC Look East, Look East, ITV (TV network), ITV's Anglia Tonight and a BBC One Norwich North By-Election Special. History The site was used for agricultural purposes until 1943 when an airfield, RAF Rackheath, was constructed and used by the United States Army Air Force Eighth Air Force. The airfield was closed at the end of war in 1945 and the land was returned to farming with most of the runways and taxiways being broken up for aggregate. Some buildings were retained and now form part of Rackheath Industrial Estate. Rackheath
Rackheath is a village and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk, and is roughly north-east of Norwich city centre. It covers an area of and had a population of 1,551 in 625 households at the 2001 census, increasing to a population of 1,972 in 762 households at the 2011 Census. For the purposes of local government, it falls within the district of Broadland. It is the site of a proposed new eco-town. The villages name origin is uncertain 'Narrow landing place' or perhaps, 'hollow landing place' or 'narrow path landing place'. The A1151 Norwich to Wroxham Road runs through the parish dividing it in two. There is a small settlement (originally known as Great Rackheath or Rackheath Magna) near the 14th century listed church of All Saints (redundant since the 1970s) to the north, and the now much larger settlement of New Rackheath (but originally known as Little Rackheath or Rackheath Parva) to the south. Aeshna Isoceles
''Aeshna isoceles'' (or ''isosceles'') is a small hawker dragonfly that is found in Europe, mostly around the Mediterranean, and the lowlands of North Africa. Its common name in English is green-eyed hawker. In the United Kingdom it is a localised species, and is called the Norfolk hawker. ''Aeshna isoceles'' is brown, with green eyes, clear wings, and a yellow triangular mark on the second abdominal segment which gave rise to its scientific name. It used to be in the genus '' Anaciaeschna'' as it different in several ways from the other members of the genus ''Aeshna'' to which it now belongs. The Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) is an independent research and campaigning charity founded and based in the United Kingdom. It works to enable homes, places and communities in which everyone can thrive, informed by the Garden City Principles. Stewart White (born 18 April 1947) is a British journalist and broadcaster, best known for presenting the East Anglian regional BBC News programme '' Look East'' for 37 years. Bittern Line
The Bittern Line is a railway branch line in Norfolk, England, that links to . It passes through the Broads on its route to an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the north Norfolk coast. It is named after the Eurasian bittern, bittern, a rare bird found in the reedy wetlands of Norfolk. The line is in length and there are 10 stations. A140 Road
The A140 is an 'A-class' road in Norfolk and Suffolk, East Anglia, England partly following the route of the Roman Pye Road. It runs from the A14 near Needham Market to the A149 south of Cromer. It is of primary status for the entirety of its route. It is approximately 56 miles (90 km) in length. A47 Road
The A47 is a major trunk road in England linking Birmingham to Lowestoft, Suffolk, maintained and operated by National Highways. Most of the section between Birmingham and Nuneaton is now classified as the B4114 road, B4114. From Peterborough eastwards, it is a trunk road (sections west of the A1 road (Great Britain), A1 road have been downgraded as alternative roads have been built). Norwich Northern Distributor Road
The Norwich Northern Distributor Road, now officially named the Broadland Northway (but commonly known as the NDR) is a dual-carriageway linking the A47 road, A47 to the south east of the city to the proposed Rackheath Eco-town and Norwich International Airport to the north of Norwich before finishing at the A1067 road, A1067 Fakenham Road to the north west of the city. The road is designated the A1270, and in Spring 2018 was named the Broadland Northway. It was given 'Programme Entry' status by the Department for Transport in December 2009. On 2 June 2015 the scheme was given the final go ahead, the road was completed on 17 April 2018, the western section having opened in late 2017.
