Rachel Christie
Rachel Sophia Adina Christie (born c. 24 July 1988) is a British beauty pageant contestant, model and athlete who was briefly Miss England 2009, and the first black woman to hold the title. In 2015, she returned to the public eye, having appeared on ''Love Island''. Her stint was short-lived, and she was eliminated in . Personal life Christie is the niece of former Olympic sprint champion Linford Christie, who, along with Ron Roddan, serves as her coach. She was born to Russell Christie, Linford's brother, who was killed as part of a drug war at the age of 34, when Rachel was 8. She became the first black winner of Miss England in 2009. She was mentored by Caprice and was invited by Naomi Campbell to walk in her Fashion for Relief Haiti catwalk show to raise funds for 2010 Haiti earthquake. Miss England is a national beauty pageant in England. History The contest, title owned by the Miss World organisation is organised each year by Angie Beasley, a winner of 25 beauty contests in the 1980s and has organised beauty pageants around the country on behalf of Miss World, including Miss United Kingdom, Miss England, Miss Scotland and Miss Wales. The contest often attracts celebrity judges at local and national finals. Many celebrities have also judged the regional heats for the competition around the country including glamour model Jordan, who joined the judging panel for Miss Sussex. Laura Coleman
Laura Coleman (b. c. 1986) is an English model, influencer and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss England 2008 and represented England at Miss World 2008. Biography Born in Melton Mowbray, Coleman comes from a family of models and beauty pageant winners. Her maternal grandmother Irene won 12 titles and became Miss Army Pin-Up and Miss Lovely Legs in the 1940s. Her mother Dena won 20 titles in her 20s, including Miss East Anglia and was a finalist in the Miss United Kingdom. Coleman won the title of Miss Leicestershire in 2005 while studying for a degree in business law and marketing at De Montfort University in Leicester, and came fourth in Miss England that year. Katrina Hodge (born 29 March 1987) is a former member of the British Army from Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent in south-east England who was handed the Miss England 2009 title after Rachel Christie stepped down. Biography Born and raised in Tunbridge Wells, she was educated from age 15 at the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology in Croydon. 2010 Haiti Earthquake
A catastrophic magnitude 7.0 Mw earthquake struck Haiti at 16:53 local time (21:53 UTC) on Tuesday, 12 January 2010. The epicenter was near the town of Léogâne, Ouest department, approximately west of Port-au-Prince, Haiti's capital. By 24 January, at least 52 aftershocks measuring 4.5 or greater had been recorded. An estimated three million people were affected by the quake.
