Race Director
In motorsport, the race director is responsible for overseeing all operations relating to competitive racing. The position involves promoting safety for events and manages the response to incidents that occur during races. Michael Masi
Michael Fausto Masi (born 8 June 1978) is an Australian motorsports official. Masi served as Formula One race director from 2019 to 2021. In this role, Masi oversaw the logistics of a Formula One racing weekend, ensuring all cars, tracks, and drivers conform to FIA regulations before, during, and after a race. Masi was removed from his position following an FIA analysis into his failure to correctly follow the safety car restart procedure at the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The FIA World Endurance Championship, abbreviated as WEC, is a world championship for automobile endurance racing organized by the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO) and sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). Brian Barnhart (born June 30, 1961) is an American motorsports executive. He is the general manager of Arrow McLaren, and is known for his past roles within the IndyCar Series paddock, holding various positions for race teams and as a race director for the series. Niels Wittich (born 1971 or 1972) is a German motorsport official who served as the race director of Formula One from 2022 until his departure in 2024. Career Wittich has a background in motorsport where he has worked in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) and was, among other roles, race director. He left DTM following the 2020 season. In 2021, Wittich served as race director for Formula 2 and Formula 3, while also assisting with Formula One. Wittich was set to become the deputy race director for Formula One in 2022, working under Michael Masi.
