RTÉ Three
RTÉ Three was a proposed channel by RTÉ Television. It was the working title of a proposed general entertainment channel. It was initially proposed that the channel would air a variety of programming not then being shown on RTÉ One and RTÉ Two as well as having access to the RTÉ archives. The announcement of the channel in May 2008 was timed to coincide with the launch of the Broadcasting Bill 2008, which provided for the switching off of Ireland's Analog television, analogue signal and the launch of two new government backed stations: the Houses of the Oireachtas Channel and the Irish Film Channel. According to Raidió Teilifís Éireann Commercial Enterprises Ltd, RTÉ CEL's and UPC Ireland's application for the 3 commercial DTT multiplexes, RTÉ Three would broadcast during weekdays, timesharing with RTÉ Sport which would air at weekends. RTÉ Television
RTÉ Television is a department of Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ), Ireland's public service broadcaster. Its first channel was Telefís Éireann, which began broadcasting on 31 December 1961. RTÉ One
RTÉ One is an Irish free-to-air flagship television channel owned and operated by RTÉ. It is the most-popular and most-watched television channel in the country and was launched as ''Telefís Éireann'' on 31 December 1961, it was renamed ''RTÉ'' in 1966, and it was renamed as RTÉ 1 upon the launch of RTÉ 2 in 1978. It is funded partly by the government's licence fee; the remainder of the funding is provided by commercial advertising. Because RTÉ is funded partly by the licence fee it shows considerably fewer advertisements than most other channels available in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Analog Television
Analog television is the original television technology that uses analog signals to transmit video and audio. In an analog television broadcast, the brightness, colors and sound are represented by amplitude, instantaneous phase and frequency, phase and frequency of an analog signal. Analog signals vary over a continuous range of possible values which means that electronic noise and interference may be introduced. Thus with analog, a moderately weak signal becomes Noise (video), snowy and subject to interference. Houses Of The Oireachtas Channel
Oireachtas TV, formally the Houses of the Oireachtas Channel (), is a public service broadcaster for the two houses of the Oireachtas (Irish parliament). The channel was created under the Broadcasting Act 2009 for broadcast on the proposed roll out of Irish Digital Terrestrial Television. The channel broadcasts in the Irish and English languages. History Oireachtas TV has been available online for a number of years and both public service broadcasters RTÉ and TG4 have carried coverage of each of the Houses of the Oireachtas. RTÉjr
RTÉjr is an Irish free-to-air children's television channel operated by state-owned broadcaster RTÉ. The channel mainly targets a demographic of 2- to 7-year-olds, but some cartoons for older children also air. The channel is part of RTÉ KIDS. The channel broadcasts 12 hours of programming each day between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm. It is supported by radio station RTÉjr Radio and additional services available on-demand, on mobile and online. The channel operates alongside its sister strand TRTÉ on RTÉ2.
