RTQ
RTQ is an Australian television station broadcasting in regional Queensland in Australia. The network was owned by Star Television, before being purchased by the WIN Corporation on 5 October 1988. Network history WIN Television Queensland started out as Darling Downs Television Limited in 1959, which was launched as a television network in 1962 as Queensland's first regional TV station, DDQ-10, broadcasting to the Darling Downs area for the first time. SDQ-4 for the Southern Downs soon launched in 1964, and DDQ-5 was next to air later (it would later change frequencies to 5A) for Toowoomba viewers. Rockhampton station, RTQ-7, was launched by Rockhampton Television Ltd on 7 September 1963 to serve viewers in Rockhampton and its suburbs. Between 1968 and 1971, RTQ's viewing audience across Central Queensland considerably increased with the installation of transmitters at Cracow, Blackwater and Gladstone. WIN Television is an Australian television broadcasting, Australian television network owned and operated by WIN Corporation that is based in Wollongong, New South Wales. WIN commenced transmissions on 18 March 1962 as a single television station covering the Wollongong region. The WIN Network has since grown to cover much of regional Australia. Peter Byrne (weather Presenter)
Peter Alexander Byrne is an Australian television presenter and meteorologist. Byrne was most notable for being a weather presenter for WIN Television from 1990 until 2012. Biography Peter was born in Mackay, Queensland and worked with the Australian Bureau of Meteorology for over 37 years. Great Eastland Television
Great Eastland Television (GET) was a network of affiliated country television stations servicing northern New South Wales and South East Queensland from 1975 to 1987. The system combined three pairs of television stations in the Darling and Southern Downs regions of Queensland and the New England, Manning River and North Coast regions of northern New South Wales. Rockhampton is a city in the Rockhampton Region of Central Queensland, Australia. In the , the population of Rockhampton was 79,293. A common nickname for Rockhampton is "Rocky", and the demonym of Rockhampton is Rockhamptonite. The Scottish-Norwegians, Norwegian explorers Archer brothers, Charles and William Archer came across the Toonooba River in 1853 and named it in-honour of Sir Charles Augustus FitzRoy, Charles FitzRoy; they also named many local landmarks after figures in Norse mythology, including the Berserker Range named after the Norse warrior "Berserker, Baresark". NEN is an Australian television station licensed to, and serving northern New South Wales. History NEN9 Tamworth/Upper Namoi commenced transmissions on 10 April 1965, with a relay in Armidale (NEN1, later NEN10) on 15 July 1966. ECN8 Taree/Manning River began on 27 May 1966. By the mid-1980s, prior to aggregation, the station was broadcasting to Tamworth on VHF 10, VHF9 from Mt Dowe (Kaputar) and VHF8 from Middle Brother Mountain. WIN Corporation is a private Australian media company, that owns assets including the WIN Television network, Crawford Productions and several local radio stations. The company is based in Wollongong, New South Wales. History Founding The WIN brand began from a sole free-to-air terrestrial television station in Wollongong, WIN-4, owned by Television Wollongong Transmissions (TWT). In 1979, then-owner Rupert Murdoch sold his 76 per cent controlling interest in TWT to ''Oberon Broadcasters'', a private investment group which included Paramount Television programming executive Bruce Gordon.
