RPM Nautical Foundation
RPM Nautical Foundation (RPMNF) is a nonprofit archaeological research and educational organization dedicated to the advancement of maritime archaeology that includes Littoral zone, littoral surveys and excavation of individual shipwreck and harbor sites. RPM Nautical Foundation is organized within the meaning of sections Charitable contribution deductions in the United States, 170(c)(2) and 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code. Underwater Archaeology
Underwater archaeology is archaeology practiced underwater. As with all other branches of archaeology, it evolved from its roots in pre-history and in the classical era to include sites from the historical and industrial eras. Its acceptance has been a relatively late development due to the difficulties of accessing and working underwater sites, and because the application of archaeology to underwater sites initially emerged from the skills and tools developed by shipwreck salvagers. As a result, underwater archaeology initially struggled to establish itself as actual archaeological research. The archaeology of shipwrecks is the field of archaeology specialized most commonly in the study and exploration of shipwrecks. Its techniques combine those of archaeology with those of Underwater diving, diving to become Underwater archaeology. However, shipwrecks are discovered on what have become terrestrial sites. It is necessary to understand the processes and theories by which a wreck site is formed to take into account the distortions in the archaeological material caused by the filtering and scrambling of material remains that occurs during and after the wrecking process. The Institute of Nautical Archaeology (INA) is an organization devoted to the study of humanity's interaction with the sea through the practice of archaeology. It is the world’s oldest organization devoted to the study of nautical archaeology. History INA's founder Dr. George Bass pioneered the science of underwater excavation in the 1960s through work at Cape Gelidonya and other ancient shipwreck sites off the coast of Turkey.
