RMN Woodlands Naval Base
Woodlands Naval Base was a military base of the Royal Malaysian Navy in Woodlands, Singapore. It is on the opposite side of the Singapore Strait from Johor Bahru. This base served as the first headquarters of the Royal Navy Malay Section (then name of the Royal Malaysian Navy) from 1952 until 9 September 1984, when the headquarters relocated to Lumut, Perak. This base was part of Singapore Naval Base and was called Singapore Naval Base - Woodlands Side. After the British Government transferred the Royal Malayan Navy (then name of the Royal Malaysian Navy) to the Federation of Malaya on 1 July 1958, almost a year after the Federation of Malaya gained independence from the British, the Singapore Naval Base was divided in half, with the Woodlands side being given to the Federation of Malaya and the Sembawang side remaining under the British and Commonwealth's military. British Military Administration (Malaya)
The British Military Administration (BMA) was the Caretaker government, interim administrator of British Malaya from August 1945, the end of World War II, to the establishment of the Malayan Union in April 1946. The BMA was under the direct command of the Supreme Allied Commander South East Asia, Lord Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma, Louis Mountbatten. HMS Malaya
HMS ''Malaya'' was one of five ''Queen Elizabeth''-class super-dreadnought battleships built for the Royal Navy during the 1910s. Shortly after commissioning in early 1916, she participated in the Battle of Jutland of the First World War as part of the Grand Fleet. ''Malaya'' spent the interwar period between the Mediterranean Fleet, Atlantic Fleet, and Home Fleet. She transported Ottoman Sultan Mehmed VI into exile and served during the 1936-1939 Arab revolt in Palestine. Apart from this, her interwar career was uneventful. Penang is a Malaysian state located on the northwest coast of Peninsular Malaysia along the Strait of Malacca. Gelugor
Gelugor is a suburb of George Town in the Malaysian state of Penang. Named after a plant species, Gelugor lies along the eastern seaboard of Penang Island, between Jelutong and Sungai Dua, and nearly south of the city centre. Gelugor had been populated as early as the late 18th century by Malay fishermen who arrived from Sumatra. The area was then cleared for agricultural plantations by David Brown, a partner of Captain Francis Light. Urbanisation of the area began in earnest in the 1960s, when residential estates were established within the area. Gelugor gradually turned into a suburb, helped by its strategic location right in between the city centre and Bayan Lepas to the south.
