RKVV DEM
RKVV DEM, an abbreviation for Rooms Katholieke Voetbalvereniging Door Eendracht Macht, is a Dutch association football club from Beverwijk. Its colors are a white shirt with a blue 'V', blue pants, and blue socks. History RKVV DEM was founded on 1 October 1922 as RKVV DES, short for "Door Eendracht Sterk". After another club with the name was detected the name was changed to DEM. From 1940 to 2018, the Sunday male team hovered mostly between the Derde Klasse, Tweede Klasse and Eerste Klasse, with a limited number of seasons also in Vierde Klasse. In 2018 it reached the Hoofdklasse through playoffs. The first squad won a 2018–19 championship in the Hoofdklasse. It was led by coach Arvid Smit. Beverwijk
Beverwijk () is a municipality and a city in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. The town is located about northwest of Amsterdam in the Randstad metropolitan area, north of the North Sea Canal very close to the North Sea coast. A railway tunnel and two motorway tunnels cross the canal between Beverwijk and the nearby city of Haarlem on the south side of the canal. Around 1640, a town called Beverwyck was founded in the Dutch colony of New Netherland. That town's modern name is Albany, New York. The Vierde Divisie (; "Fourth Division"), formerly known as Hoofdklasse () is the second-highest league of amateur football in the Netherlands, and the fifth tier in general. Background The league was divided into two sections: Saturday and Sunday. This was a result of the traditional pillarisation (), the segregation of Dutch society. The ''Saturday'' clubs are mainly Protestant Christian clubs, who were not allowed to play on Sunday. The ''Sunday'' clubs were in general Catholic and working class clubs, whose players had to work on Saturday and therefore could only play on Sunday. Although the pillarisation ended in the 1960s and 1970s, the clubs and the league maintained this division until 2023. Arvid Smit
Arvid Benjamin Smit (born 12 December 1980) is a Dutch football coach and former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He is the assistant coach for the Netherlands women's national team. Career Smit was born in Heerhugowaard, North Holland. After impressing with Telstar in the second division, he was signed by country giants PSV Eindhoven in 2002, but would appear very rarely officially for his new team and never in the Eredivisie, going on to serve three loans in the country, always in the top flight. In January 2007, still owned by PSV, Smit moved to Portugal's C.S. Marítimo, making his first appearance on the 29th in the local derby of Madeira against C.D. Nacional. The Derde Divisie (; ), formerly known as Topklasse (; ), is the fourth tier of football in the Netherlands, which had its inaugural season as a third tier in 2010–11 and as a fourth tier in 2016–17. The league is placed between the Tweede Divisie and the Vierde Divisie (formerly Hoofdklasse), the third and fifth tiers of Dutch football, respectively.
