R64 (South Africa)
The R64 is a provincial route in South Africa that connects Kimberley with Bloemfontein via Boshof and Dealesville. It is slightly longer than the newer N8 route via Petrusburg, by about 10 kilometres. The R64 used to continue westwards from Kimberley through Griekwastad to Groblershoop. That stretch of road is now part of the N8 route. Route Free State The R64 begins at an interchange with the N1 highway ( Bloemfontein Western Bypass) and the N8 national route in Bloemfontein (Capital of the Free State), just west of the city centre. It begins by heading north-west for 31 kilometres to cross the Modder River adjacent to the Krugersdrift Dam and Soetdoring Nature Reserve. The Bloemfontein Ring Road, also known as the Bloemfontein bypass is a halfway ring road that circles the city of Bloemfontein, South Africa. It is part of the N1 national route. The N12 is a national route (South Africa), national route in South Africa which runs from George, Western Cape, George through Beaufort West, Kimberley, Northern Cape, Kimberley, Klerksdorp and Johannesburg to Witbank, eMalahleni. It is the only other National Route after the N1 (South Africa), N1 route that connects the Western Cape Province with the Gauteng Province. The R703 is a regional route in Free State, South Africa that connects Dealesville with Clocolan via Brandfort, Verkeerdevlei and Excelsior. Route Its western terminus is the R64 just east of Dealesville. From there, it heads east to the town of Soutpan. Just outside Soutpan, it crosses the R700 at a staggered intersection. Continuing east, it reaches Brandfort, where it crosses the R30. From Brandfort, the route initially heads east, reaching a t-junction. The R703 continues along the intersecting road, heading south-east, while the other road is unsigned and heads to Winburg. The south-eastern R703 crosses the N1 to reach Verkeerdevlei. Krugersdrift Dam
The Krugersdrift Dam in the Modder River is 35 km northwest of Bloemfontein, Free State Province of South Africa with a capacity of 73.2 million cubic metres. It was built in 1970 with a wall length of 3114 m, height of 26 m and a surface area of 1 853 ha. The huge dam is very shallow and can lose its water in a short period of time due to usage and evaporation. The dam is situated in the Soetdoring Nature Reserve and holds yellowfish, Orange River mudfish, barbel and carp. It is a popular birding venue with large numbers of South African shelduck, Spur-winged geese and Egyptian geese. Access to the reserve is from the Bloemfontein-Bultfontein road ( R700) or from the Bloemfontein-Kimberley road ( R64); the reserve is about 40 kilometres from Bloemfontein's city centre.
