Westonaria is a town in the west of Gauteng province of South Africa. It is situated in the Rand West City Local Municipality, part of the West Rand District Municipality. During the apartheid era, Africans lived outside town in Bekkersdal. The R59 is a provincial route in South Africa that connects Hertzogville with Alberton (south-east of Johannesburg) via Bothaville, Parys and Vereeniging. The R59 is a freeway from the R57 Junction in Sasolburg until the Alberton N12 Reading Interchange, signposted as the Sybrand van Niekerk Freeway. Route Free State The R59 begins at a t-junction with the R64 about 18 kilometres west of Dealesville. It heads north for 61 kilometres to the town of Hertzogville, where it meets the R708 at a t-junction next to the Palmietpan and they become co-signed northwards. North of the town, the R59 becomes its own road north-east, heading for 50 kilometres to Hoopstad where on the southerly outskirts, before the Vet River, it meets the northern terminus of the R700 at a t-junction and turns northwards. Vaal River
The Vaal River ( ; Khoemana: ) is the largest tributary of the Orange River in South Africa. The river has its source near Breyten in Mpumalanga province, east of Johannesburg and about north of Ermelo and only about from the Indian Ocean. It then flows westwards to its conjunction with the Orange River southwest of Kimberley in the Northern Cape. It is long, and forms the border between Mpumalanga, Gauteng and North West Province on its north bank, and the Free State on its south. Mooi River (Vaal)
The Mooi River ( af, Mooirivier) is a river in North West Province, South Africa. It is a tributary of the Vaal River and belongs to the Upper Vaal Water Management Area. Course The Mooi rises near Koster and flows southwards. During its course it flows into the Klerkskraal Dam, Boskop Dam and the Potchefstroom Dam. After crossing the town of Potchefstroom it bends southwestwards, shortly bending westwards before it empties into the Vaal River near the border with the Free State, about 15 km east of Stilfontein. Its main tributaries are the Wonderfonteinspruit (Mooirivierloop) and the Loop Spruit. The N12 is a national route in South Africa which runs from George through Beaufort West, Kimberley, Klerksdorp and Johannesburg to eMalahleni. It is the only other National Route after the N1 Route that connects the Western Cape Province with the Gauteng Province. Prior to 1971, the N12 from Johannesburg to Three Sisters was known as the N13. Route Summary The road starts in George in the Western Cape and ends in eMalahleni in Mpumalanga. The road runs roughly from south to north, however, once it passes Kimberley in the Northern Cape, it gradually turns eastward. The R53 is a provincial route in South Africa that connects Swartruggens with Parys via Ventersdorp and Potchefstroom. Route The R53 begins in Swartruggens, North West province, at a junction with the N4 National Route (Platinum Highway). It begins by going southwards for 45 kilometres to reach a junction with the R52 Road, which goes to Koster in the east and Lichtenburg in the west. From the R52 junction, the R53 continues south-south-east for 42 kilometres to reach a t-junction with the R30 Road in the town of Ventersdorp. Route The R559 begins at a junction with the R558 Road in Protea Glen, Soweto, just north of the R558's intersection with the N12. Carletonville is a town in Gauteng and the seat of the Merafong City Local Municipality in the West Rand District Municipality in Gauteng, South Africa, just north of the richest gold-mining area in the world. At 3,749 m, Western Deep Levels holds the record for the world's deepest gold mine. History Developed by various mining companies from 1937 onwards, Carletonville was named after the long-serving mining director of Consolidated Gold Fields, Guy Carleton Jones, but was not officially incorporated until 1959. Upon reaching a population of 2000 1967, (mostly white inhabitants of the apartheid era) it became officially recognised and celebrated as a provincial town.
