M18 Motorway (Ireland)
The M18 motorway ( ga, Mótarbhealach M18) is an inter-urban motorway in Ireland, forming part of the Limerick, Ennis to Galway national primary road, which, in turn, forms part of the Atlantic Corridor called for as part of the Transport 21 project. Route The motorway starts at junction 9 on the Shannon bypass and heads in a northerly direction where it bypasses the town of Newmarket-on-Fergus via the townlands of Killulla, Knocksaggart and Ballyconneely. After Newmarket-on-Fergus the motorway runs alongside Dromoland, where significant historical features can be seen from the mainline. As the route gets further north it develops into a more modern style of road: the Ennis Bypass. The median was constructed with a H2 concrete barrier rather than the wide grassy median seen in the earlier stretch to the south and features a lower noise wearing course. Gort
Gort ( or ) is a town of around 3,000 inhabitants in County Galway in the west of Ireland. Located near the border with County Clare, the town lies between the Burren and the Slieve Aughty and is served by the R458 and R460 regional roads, which connect to the M18 motorway. Etymology Gort is short for the complete Irish name, ''Gort Inse Guaire'' (''gort:'' a meadow, field, ''inse:'' an island, and ''Guaire:'' a proper name) and translates to "field of Guaire's island". N66 Road (Ireland)
The N66 road was a national secondary road in Ireland. It latterly linked the M18 at Gort, County Galway to the N65 outside Loughrea at the north of the Loughrea Bypass. Prior to the construction of the Loughrea Bypass and M18 during the 2000s the N66 ran from the N18 road in Gort to the N6 in Loughrea itself and this was its configuration for most of its lifetime which was from c. 1970 to 2005. The N65, since 2010, continues north from Loughrea and forms an interchange with the M6. All routings lay entirely within County Galway. Lough Bunny
Lough Bunny () is a freshwater lake in the Burren, County Clare, Ireland. Geography Lough Bunny measures about long and wide. It lies about southwest of Gort near the village of Boston. Hydrology Lough Bunny has no permanent inflow or outflow. It is fed by springs and drains into fissures around the lake's northern end. The lake is oligotrophic. Natural history Fish species in Lough Bunny include perch, rudd, pike and the critically endangered European eel. Administration The lake lies within the jurisdiction of Clare County Council, and is within the Mid-West Region of Ireland.
