R. Sukumaran
R. Sukumaran is an Indian film director. Sukumaran's entry into film-making was incidental. While on an exhibition in Germany, he was invited to make a movie and thus began his work as a director. His first movie was ''Paadha Mudra'' which was both critically and commercially successful. The movie explored the father-son relationship. This was followed by ''Rajashilpi'' which bordered on the realms of fantasy. ''Yugapurushan'', released in February 2010, had been in the making for over fifteen years. Though Sukumaran has made few films, they were "enough to establish him as a filmmaker worth reckoning" with and to give him a reputation in Malayalam cinema. ''Rajashilpi'' () is a 1992 Indian Malayalam-language drama film written and directed by R. Sukumaran, starring Mohanlal and Bhanupriya. The plot is a re-telling of the legend about lord Shiva and goddess Sati who was later reborn as goddess Parvati for the love of Shiva. It was Bhanupriya's first Malayalam film. Plot Rajashilpi is the re-telling of the legend about lord Shiva. The plot of the story is constructed in a way that the events in the legend repeats itself in a new setting with different characters but with the same spiritual auras of the main persons, especially Siva and Sati. The first image of Durga is maintained throughout the film, Durga is the re-incarnated Uma. ''Yugapurushan'' is a 2010 Indian Malayalam-language film about the life and times of Sree Narayana Guru. The movie is directed by R. Sukumaran. It has an ensemble cast led by Mammootty, Thalaivasal Vijay and Siddique. Production The film was in the making for more than fifteen years. Sukumaran says this movie was a childhood ambition, a destiny. His devotion to Sree Narayana Guru is what promoted him to make this movie. Over 2000 hand drawn images constitute the story board. Mohanlal was initially cast as "Swami Vivekananda", a cameo role in the movie which comes in the flashback, but later on withdrew from the movie due to problems with his shooting dates.
