R. Samuel Hunt
Rector Samuel Hunt III (born September 1, 1941) is an American businessman and retired politician. A Democrat, he served in the North Carolina House of Representatives from 1985 to 1992, representing the 25th district. He served as Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Transportation from 1993 to 1995. Early life Rector Samuel Hunt III was born on September 1, 1941, in Burlington, North Carolina, United States to Rector S. Hunt Jr. and Mildred Rachel Hunt. He attended Williams High School from 1955 to 1959 and graduated from Eastern Carolina University in 1965. He served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1969 and in the Army Reserves in 1970 at the rank of first lieutenant. The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is responsible for building, repairing, and operating highways, bridges, and other modes of transportation, including ferries in the U.S. state of North Carolina. History The North Carolina Department of Transportation was formed in 1915 as the State Highway Commission. In 1931, the commission was restructured to include a chair and six other members appointed by the governor. It also assumed responsibility for the maintenance of all county roads in the state and all inmates of county jails sentenced to over 60 days incarceration. Jim Hunt
James Baxter Hunt Jr. (born May 16, 1937) is an American politician and retired attorney who was the List of governors of North Carolina, 69th and 71st governor of North Carolina (1977–1985, and 1993–2001). He is the longest-serving governor in the state's history. Hunt is tied with former Ohio governor Jim Rhodes for the List of longest-serving governors of U.S. states, sixth-longest gubernatorial tenure in post-Constitutional U.S. history at days. He is also the father of current North Carolina Lieutenant Governor Rachel Hunt.
